Vinyl Planks Issues – Is it True?

Hi Houzzers,

We were at a Beaumont Tile shop here last week and ended up on the topic of vinyl planks with the owner of the store.

He mentioned that vinyl planks can peel up in places of high humidity - and also, that in 10 years or so, they will need sanding back and re-sealing/polishing.

Is this true?

We are all set to make a tile selection but wanted to just double check this information about vinyl planks as they "may" be an alternative in the bedrooms vs carpet. (That could be a whole other post lol).

The person at Beaumont Tiles was the owner who claimed to have owned his own tile store for 20 years - and prior to that, owned his own carpet store which sold vinyl planks for 23 years so he seemed quite knowledgeable on flooring options.

Can anyone confirm if the peeling/humidity is an issue and if the vinyl planks will need ongoing maintenance like actual hardwood floors?

Grateful for any responses :)

Nik
