Furniture placement for small, narrow living room.
Comments (16)I love your fireplace. I would not alter it. The door and the floorboards draw your eye straight to the fireplace. I wouod definitely alter the light fittings. I would have the tv on the dining room wall to the right of the arches. I wouod have one lounge on the window wall opposite the tv and a chair in the corner if there is enough room. I would have an eyecatching wing back chair to the left of the fireplace opposite the dining room and white lacy soft curtains softening the window wall. To the left of the fireplace near the dining room arch you could add some interesting decorating piece. I would concentrate on making the fireplace wall the focal point of the room and the tv corner a secondary focal point that is soft and relaxing. You could trow down a couple of beautiful, thick, soft floor mats to soften the brick and provide a texture contrast. Overall, I love the room, it has character and strength, its not boring and mundane. Good luck! I hope you find something that suits both you and hubby...See Moreblack and timber kitchen
Comments (10)oh good! The timber is a very sleek Tasmanian blackwood which is quarter cut (rather than the more usual crown cut) which gives a straight and smooth grain. So it will be a warmish timber, caramel brown. With regard to the greenery, my thought was to cut a "pigeon hole" out of the right side of the upper cupboards - to balance the floating shelf on the left - and have that timber lined for a lush green plant (in a pot of course, lol) And I'm not sure what light? A linear pendant along the island or is it too plain for such a sleek look and should I go for a classic Louis Poulsen or something? Thanks for the validation, I feel so much better!...See MoreFireplace - where to start?
Comments (5)please don't change it.. the small curves add a feature that complements the trim on the mantlepiece...consider a gas log insert if needed for heating, if not, have the chimney cleaned and sealed off to avoid drafts and visiting wildlife, repaint the steel basket, add a frame to the mirror and suspend a few cms above the mantlepiece "portrait" style and try some lighter coloured logs to brighten the picture...See MoreHelp with open plan Kitchen/Dining/Living space c
Comments (12)not a professional just obsessed with building and renovating..bagging the fireplace wall would make it easy to fill in the old master bedroom doorway with bricks to make a seamless match for the whole wall and brighten the whole new room and a simple roof extension on legs at right angles to the house with a gable roof, simple steel framed construction with Colorbond and lazerlite roofing and raked ceilings would make an ideal alfresco but you would probably need a skylight in the new kitchen to keep indoors from being too dark (and/or check out Solar Skylights that are excellent for adding extra light without holes in the roof) ...the alfresco could have basic concrete slab extended out from the existing verandah, screen walls, outdoor fireplace and outdoor barbq kitchen and sink..we've done something similar in a previous reno using a custom sized steel carport supplied by a local garage maker and then adding screen walls with lazerlite, lattice and plastic cafe blinds subject to views and direction of the weather ... you should also consider bug screening using horticultural shade cloth as you may find rural living a bit more fly blown than the suburbs and the screened room makes a safe play area for small kids and for pets left home alone btw don't forget to check the measurements of all the rooms as there are some discrepancies that need to be corrected in the plans and would be happy to redraw with correct measurements...See MoreNicole A
