Hi Dr Retro - thanks for this information - I am very interested in the name of the window company that you used in the picture above? I think Powder coated aluminium with a Georgian option retaining horizontal strips to get a thin lined steel, looks great. I love this look, however I have visited several showrooms and have not seen anything similar, so if I could have the name of the this company, I’d be extremely grateful. Thanks Rose.

Hi Rose,

You won't see them on display at any company as I designed them and instructed the window manufacturer how to make them. They were made by Stegbar windows based on their standard Georgian windows, which are normally powder coated white. I instructed to make them in powder-coated black but to exclude the vertical divisions. I think that most aluminium window manufacturers should be able to make them - but none of them will have them on display. I don't think that they would look very effective if you were using double glazing.

This project was completed over 20 years ago (yes I have been in the business that long!) so I hope that the window manufacturers are still making Georgian style sliding doors!

I have an Edwardian home (so all the windows are timber). We’re just about to embark on a Reno and I am still undecided about what type of windows will best suit. If so they can advise you on the options available in energy efficient window selections that are appropriate. Hi Caryn, I finally gave up on the idea bc you can’t have double glazed (in the aluminium Georgian windows excluding verticals). To get the steel look I think you’d have to pay the steel price - which is fairly pricey! In the end I have opted to go for Timber windows (so they match the rest of the house and hopefully they will look gorgeous). Reno is yet to commence - fingers crossed a few weeks away. If you are in Melb - happy to share where I found best quote for my timber windows. Cheers and good luck :)

I ended up choosing Whetstone Windows and Doors (in Keilor Park) - not yet installed due to Covid delays, but on order and as a company they have been great to deal with and assist with all the extensive decisions (Stef has been great to deal with) that need to be made re all the choices involved!
