Comments (1)the wall behind the bed would need to be at least 1.5m wide for the bed + 45cm x 2 for a pair of small side tables plus the two doorways 2 x 75cm (80cm would be better) so the room needs to be at least 4m wide and the hallway needs to be at least 90cm wide for comfortable movement. the attached plan shows suggested minimum sizes but does not allow for the bedroom entry door or windows accurate measurements for all these spaces may invite some other ideas...See MoreFloor-plan feedback/ideas needed -What do you think of this floor-plan
Comments (51)siriuskey, Yes, the courtyard is open to the sky (no roof over it), I assume this is what you mean by double story. Ref. below photos, I would love to get this look, especially the first and last photo, where you can see family living space from the first floor. I can't achieve this in my plan as it eats a lot of floor space upstairs. The referred plan (photos) has a very big void combining staircase, hallway and dining area. I know it is not easy with cooling and heating when you have such a big void. So, I explored a few ideas (with my limited knowledge on this topic) before achieving the current floorplan. I have also thought about, in my current plan, extending the void on the staircase to the dining area (it is more like L shape) but i wasn't sure if that makes any difference. keen to hear your thoughts....See MoreWhere to start? Comments (7)to remove the whole wall and consider custom storage there are expensive demolition, structural support and rebuilding issues (think $20,000?) that won't add extra space, just rearrange what's already there..whatever the long term decision the unsuitable wardrobes will need to be removed so you could try my suggestion, live with that and then consider more drastic changes that would be equally expensive to restore..an interior or building designer or a draughtsperson can draw up different ideas and a builder or carpenter can do the work but you need to be clear about your budget as a simple job can spiral out of control before you begin redecorating..the key word i considered is "reconversion' and i think you'll achieve a much more cost effective solution by not removing any structural walls ..the computer program i use is called 3D Home Architect Version 4 and is the best simple program i've ever used but it's many years old and not readily available any more but there have been several recent HOUZZ enquiries with answers about other CAD programs that might suggest alternatives..but, for such a simple proposal, nothing better than precise measurements of the existing spaces, graph paper, ruler and pencil and a clear understanding of what's already there (eg are the wardrobes added to the wall or part of the wall, do they reach the ceiling and are they raised off the floor and what style of doors do they have??) some photos could help inspire more suggestions from other HOUZZERS...See MoreMaster bedroom/ensuite/WIR floor plan help!
Comments (14)One question i have with your design Oklouise is whether the sloped ceiling will look odd in bed 2? The house is an old queenslander and bed 2 was originally the lounge room, with two sets of french doors opening on to an enclosed veranda. We are opening up the front veranda but not the side one (because that would limit the floor space we have available to build in downstairs). The "reading/playroom" was kept separate to the bedroom because that space has a steep sloped ceiling and a set of french doors opening on to it so we thought it looked like a separate space. If we remove the french doors and knock down the wall, do you think the bedroom will feel strange? We would like to keep the set of french doors opening on to the verandah at the front of the room....See MoreD'Cruz Design Group
