Gray Cabinets advise
Doing a kitchen remodel. Have the dated honey oak cabinets now. There in good shape so we are just going to paint/ceruse them gray. What color countertops would go with the gray?

Comments (24)Interesting range of comments - Is it that there is a general shift towards an industrial trend? Topic is far too close for comfort, as I have a bathroom being tiled in a couple of days, have had tiles for a couple of months now, so doubt does set in!! A while back I probably thought I would go towards a traditional look, but looks like I have moved towards the industrial - which the family are fully supportive of - young adults and husband. Our home is . . . transitional, though I hesitate labelling it. Also these images make me wonder if a cool grey is a more traditional look and a warm grey more representative of an industrial look or modern look? These are my tiles: Left pale grey/white for ensuite floor and walls, with white cabinetry work, centre mid grey for family bathroom & laundry floor, with white cabinetry work, right mid grey to darker grey for a large open plan area of kitchen/dinning/small sitting area. Comments (35)i have not looked into the splashback pricing yet, as i am still stuck onto the colour fr the cabinets. we have to decide it tonight. I have been looking at warm whites, as suggested earlier in the thread. Antique white USA in 1/4 strength i think will go with the grey colored stone. I have read tht in full strength it throws cream tones. NOt sure if this colour scheme will work. i still have to decide the wall colours for the kitchen. Comments (8)We're just doing our small ensuite at the moment and have used a marble-look matt tile on the walls and floor. I liked the tile but did have some concerns it might look a bit "busy". Now that it's in though, I really like it. We have gone with a white vanity with a pale marbled benchtop and chrome fittings rather than black as I was concerned that the black would date quicker. 5 years agoI would probably get some prices on replacing your benchtop before deciding on a paint colour for the cabinetwork. Repainting existing cabinetwork is usually done by those on a tight budget, rather than replace with a new kitchen. You may be surprised how much you need to spend on a new countertop by the time the stonemason has allowed for all of the finishing and edging.
I would be approaching it the other way - keep the benchtop, which looks like it was an expensive granite, and find a complementary paint colour - perhaps a charcoal, then update the cabinetwork handles.
Seems a pity that a 1.7 billion year old granite benchtop ends up as landfill when it looks a little dated, but still perfectly serviceable, all in the name of transient fashion.
