Can anyone tell me what the actual difference is between a "living" room and a "family" room? Also is a "lounge" room just another name for either one of the above? Thanks

Does the bathroom come off the bedroom or off the glossy tiled floor. If off the bedroom, then take a sample of your laminate flooring to a tile shop and match to that in a Matt finished tile. And yes, the wooden vanity will look great. If the bathroom is joining the gloss tiles, then why can't you use those tiles as well, in the bathroom. Your tile shop would help you with a good match, if those are too slippery for bathroom. Definitely still use the wood vanity, to add some texture. The bedroom tone and gloss tiles are different, so which ever room the bathroom is joining, use that colour tone.

To be blunt -- the room isn't really big enough ! So you have to sort out priorities , and space . You have a dining table , and a computer desk . Can you get rid of the computer desk , by having your computer tower mounted behind the couch or similar , and a wireless keyboard and mouse that you can use on the dining table ? Mount the monitor on a wall , or if you don't need in depth graphics , I understand you can use your TV ( I've heard something about the 'refresh rate' is less on a TV ? ) . Maybe even have a monitor but also the option of using your TV ? Could you use a 'breakfast bar' , probably where the computer desk is now , I know its not sociable all staring at a wall , but it would/could serve as a brakfast bar and computer workstation . Could you get rid of the dining table and chairs , and have a large coffee table , or 2 smaller ones , and eat 'casually' ( my polite way of saying eat sitting on the couch ) ? Even mounting the TV on the wall will let you get rid of the cabinet , but I gather you have gaming consoles in there ? And the present arrangement with the pot plants uses some space -- maybe some shelves with them on will still retain the plants but free up floor space ? Just some thoughts off the top of my head .

Hi Monica, I’d suggest, if time and finances allow, go stay in an Airbnb with shiny tiles and get a feel for them yourself. Alternatively, buy a box of those particular tiles and experiment. Many tile suppliers will refund or credit if the tiles are returned undamaged within a few weeks. One person’s pet peeve is another’s dream choice, after all. What to look for? I’d suggest slipperiness, marking from footprints etc, whether they feel cold (tiles vary in this regard), glare from reflections, how dusty or gritty they look and feel. Remember though, all floors have good and bad points and some of the newer tiles have overcome some of the problems some of the older shiny tiles had. There’s also the option of investing in a robotic vacuum, cordless mops etc to keep that shiny, luxe look easier to maintain. Life is short, if you love them, I say go for it
