"Need help with layout of music/ study room"
Comments (3)The visual artist needs the window - so position easel? or other working items where the keyboards currently are . . . and start working from there. The blue sofa cushions - maybe hang them against the walls (they could function as pinboards?) - but I think you need something to deaden the sound - or your neighbours may hate you. Rugs on the floor and the thickest drapes you can afford (or improvise with blankets) for the window. Hmmm . . . maybe artist towards the right-handside (door-side) of the window - trestles in L shape along the long wall, and a bit of the window to make 2 desks - and musician's stuff occupying the wall adjacent to the door and into the centre of the room? Everyone gets a shelf each in the cupboard . . . and a dedicated space in the room?...See MoreFamily room layout help needed
Comments (9)A few things to consider indeed, but what a great space to work with... my humble opinion on some of your points and queries... 3) if you haven't already got the cabinet/shelves unit yet see if you can get one with sliding cabinet doors 4) great idea, so avoid any heavy items of furniture (e.g. big armchair) in the centre of the room that will be harder to move/relocate and think more ottomans, bean bags, etc You are absolutely spot on with placing the wall units on the 4m wall and keeping the slightly wider 4.2m wall for seating facing the outdoors a) clearance depends on how much and what kind of traffic going through, e.g. doorways approx 700-800, passage 1000-1200, but to get around a coffee table to access couch or get around behind a chair at least 500-600 and more if you can accommodate... and of course depends on the type of furniture, e.g. if you have cabinet doors that swing open (as opposed to sliding) then you have to allow enough clearance to open the door and access the cabinet comfortably b) I think you can do better than a 2-seater in such a big space... e.g. let's say wall units base cabinets are 600 deep even with swing open doors of 400 you'll need clearance of say 1000-1200 from that wall on the right, which out of the 4.2m wall at the bottom leaves you with 3m... so I would fill up the bottom left corner by having a 3-seater/chaise modular along the remaining 3m with the 'return' chaise on the left along the 1.7m wall c) yes, you'll definitely need one large 'area' rug to define the space... you could even use two different rugs and create two zones... one large rectangular one framed by the couch and wall units and a second smaller round or asymmetrical one closer to the sliding doors paired up with a bean bag or big floor cushions d) I think a tall indoor palm/fern in a nice large pot just in the corner of the units and wall (to your left as you enter the space) would be a welcoming touch and tie in with the outdoors Good luck ;)...See MoreNeed help with living room layout.
Comments (4)Hi. The window placement and fireplace, would suggest an arrangement of an L shape of seating, ( connected or unconnected) so that one lot of seating faces the fire, the other faces the other wall (carport direction) but it remains as one , it would give you options for looking out of the windows, at the fire in winter or TV. I am struggling with plans for a new house and trying to decide where to locate the TV on the wall with the fireplace, and it is so difficult as it disrupts symmetry. I think that the offset windows will allow that space to work fine with the TV on the other wall....See MoreHelp required with plan for custom design home layout
Comments (38)It seems (the design/layout) of the building form is progressively getting bitsy and tight ( like in a typical volume build plan) in the main living/kitchen/dining/alfresco area rather than being elegantly resolved with the flexibility potential layout usually exemplified in a custom home .......what is going through my mind is what exactly is the function of the external space to the west which is not at all connected with the internal.....I'd be considering configuring the ground floor better to maximise/exploit the northern aspect...It would simplify the whole thing, be more efficient and less block-like with building chunks cut-out/doglegged just to suit a table or whatever..........It's like the requirements are being somewhat forced within a particular set building shape rather than designing it so it all flows more naturally/balanced and is more elegantly linked and maximises the available land/space/aspect...form (should!) follow(s) function.........may I also comment that perhaps some care/caution/discretion should be taken when uploading documents clearly associated with a particular designer on forums (for public critique/comment!) ;)...See MoreKate D
