Help with flooring decision please

I'm trying to decide on whether to replace carpet for carpet or replace the carpet with engineered wood flooring. I'm looking at Hallmark Alta Vista possibly in the color Del Mar. My dilemma is that our main walkway from the garage to the living area/kitchen/dining room is currently carpet and you can see how grungy it gets with traffic. We are not strict "take off your shoes" kind of people.
If we went with engineered wood, I would replace the tile in the dining room with that same flooring. But do I leave the tile in the entryway or carry the engineered wood there as well?
We also have three hallways that will be this same flooring choice.
(PS - the walls will be painted SW Accessible Beige, but mixed with BM Regal Matte)

Help me make a decision...island sink, kitchen design
Comments (27)I spent ages figuring out the lay out of our kitchen and am really happy with the result (four months in). We put the sink on the back wall, under a window and love looking out. Make sure there is a bin drawer next to the sink. Ours goes bin, sink, dishwasher, drawers, stove, drawers, oven stack. I think the passages in your kitchen area are a bit narrow. We have 1300mm between the benchtop edges. People can then pass each other easily and it doesn't matter if the drawers or dishwasher is open. The island then has drawers holding the plates and cutlery. You can unload the dishwasher straight into the opposite drawers which the kids love. You have two lots of corner cupboards in the pantry and might be better off with one straight line as I don't believe you gain much more and it will feel more spacious. Consider leaving a space on the kitchen side of the island so you can sit too. I hate standing while entertaining and everyone else is sitting at the island! Hope that helps....See MoreHelp! Comments (106)Thank you siriuskey. Yes that's what I was referring to, but I think I wasn't giving credit to the island sink, which would also serve for food prep. I was thinking about efficiency from my perspective. Euro bins next to sink in island, would be beneficial for ease of handling waste. Another consideration is: when using cooktop and extraction fan, will noise from fan interfere with person in study? Also, will steam from say, boiling water steam bother anyone using the study desk? I am not trying to throw cold water on the plan by my questions, I'm merely trying to imagine diff scenarios so as much as can be taken into consideration is. I have a glass splashback behind induction cooktop and a very effective extraction fan; however, when a large pot of water is at full boil, the glass steams up something chronic and I have to constantly wipe it and the underside of exhaust fan or else water drips down onto the cooktop (and any food I'm cooking)....See MoreHelp on paint decision...
Comments (17)The wall paper is very detailed and if you painted the walls a dark colour (and your keeping the dark bed?) it is going to be a very very dark, heavy room and quite overpowering. Your carpet goes well with the medium-tone mustard colours in the wallpaper so personally I would pick out one of these lighter mustard colours for the walls as well to soften the room, but not white - white would be too much of a stark contrast to the wallpaper. The mustard would add warmth and also be a beautiful background to the stunning bed you have which is a feature in itself. To balance the colours in the room you could consider adding some small throw cushions / throw rug, or possibly a small floor rug, that matches the dark background colour in the wallpaper. Have you considered what you will put on the other walls? Try ebay or vintage shops for a mirror/s that have a similar frame to the ones in your wallpaper....See MorePlease help with my floor plan
Comments (18)I'll throw a few ideas around . In spite of what you said about noise , I'd be tempted to go open plan and include the entry into the area . You said about the narrow hallway -- why not do an 825 or 850 wide door to the 'left' of the laundry door , slightly in the hallway ? One thing ( well 3 ) I'd seriously consider if you did go open plan would be to take out the right hand laundry wall , and enlarge it another 50cm or so 'right' into the old kitchen area , and second thing would be swing the external laundry door outwards , and then you could do as big a series of cupboards as you want in the laundry along the right side wall . There's sometimes a problem with condensation forming in cupboards if you use the dryer lots , but a fan exiting to outside should fix that . So , in a nutshell , a bigger laundry but with cupboards . The rest is totally up to personal choice -- you have more space by including the entrance , and more usable space as you don't have to worry about walls and doors . So maybe a TV on the wall where the entry is now , lounge around that , a dining in the middle or the far end , kitchen can be 'square' ( 2 or 3 high lots of cupboards in a square ) , or similar but only 2sided , or along that back wall .
