With more people becoming acutely aware of their impact on the environment, sustainable and green materials are trending in today’s house designs.
Mixing multiple green materials in the one build is being utilised to create earthy, stylish and unique looks. This not only creates a beautiful design, it can also add to the efficiency of your home.
Rammed Earth is made from gravel, soil and cement it is fireproof, absorbs sound, acts as a heat regulator, looks beautiful, lasts for centuries, doesn’t have or attract bugs and is a great insulator. While it has lots of pros, some of the cons of this material is that is won’t work well in wet and cool environments (so you’re not going to want to use it in a rainforest setting!). It can also be expensive to use and difficult to find suitable, experienced engineers to make and place the material.
What do you think of rammed earth?
Would you want to use it in your dream home?...
