Ensuite Reno Currently Underway - Floorplan Advice Please
Comments (11)Option 1 is fine but you have no vanity space and these tend to look poky in smaller bathrooms. This is a smaller bathroom, this can be eliminated with say frosted glass walls. But you are changing a bathroom for one that is similar sized, worst case mirror the WC over so it gets some ventilation. Option 2 are you kidding me a full length window in the shower? where is the entry to the master? is it coming off the living room? Option 2 good use of the hall, but the planning of a free standing bath in this small main bathroom will make it appeal smaller is there no shower in this option? If you are going to the expense of making wall changes, what about taking the bath out to the eaves, if you have them which will give you 600 mm more space? If the master is coming off the living room? If the overall internal dimension is 4.2 M and you need say 900 mm for entry to ensuite and 100 mm walls, that leaves you with 3.2 M for ensuite. Looks like you are taking out lots of walls, so to me if you changed the access to the WIR and ensuite to the other side, the vanity can be near the full length window, which solves the water issues of it being in a shower, and it would be nice to be pushed out the 600 mm like the bathroom, and if you were willing to give up say 300 mm of space from the bedroom side, 4.2 x 3.1 than you could have hanging space (which goes into that proposed new access point), on two sides and then a total wall of storage in shelves or drawers or places to put shoes and bags and ties and smalls on the ensuite side....See MoreBathroom reno layout advice
Comments (20)Save the pink bathroom! The original floor and the pink bath are beautiful! And obviously appropriate to the era of your house. http://savethepinkbathrooms.com/ To give you a more spacious feel, have the door replaced with a cavity sliding door - it gives you an amazing amount of extra space, we did it in our bathroom I would replace the vanity, which is obviously not original, with a custom laminate vanity with cupboards underneath in pink (top) and grey (cupboard doors/sides) or even a boomerang pattern for the top (http://retrospaces.com.au/retro/images/laminates/Renovation/FirstLadyPink.jpg) have a skilled tiler repair any areas that need repairing and have the tiles professionally cleaned and re-grouted and re-do all of the silicone, Then replace all the tapwear with new chrome taps but in an appropriate style (like these for example http://www.caroma.com.au/bathrooms/taps/retro/retro-wall-top-assemblies) and a new glass shower screen. A really fresh coat of white paint (use the bathroom product), better lighting - put a light in above the mirror (http://www.ikea.com/au/en/catalog/products/00255303/) and a fan/heater/light in front of the vanity exactly above where you'll stand when you get out of the shower. If the mirror isn't in good shape (or it may be mirror doors on a cabinet? I can't tell) then think about replacing the mirror too. You'll save a heap of money over completely re-doing the bathroom and importantly you'll be in keeping with (and preserving) the midcentury design of your home....See MoreDesign advice please on small bathroom reno to queen of UNcreativity!

Comments (15)sorry for the delay, internet probs..The measurements look better than expected but the headroom in the stairwell is a problem ie if the new stairs begin at the old toilet door by the time you reach the back wall of the toilet going down you haven't gone down far enough to avoid hitting your head on the floor!!.. one solution is to have an upstairs laundry, or take space off the new living area and i've attached another idea but, with the accurate measurements there will be other ideas and i'll let you know.....See MoreLaura Sherri Smith
