Design Advice Laundry

I am doing a Reno on my apartment. having never renovated before, I need help. The laundry is a bit of an awkward space that has a window in the middle of the wall and not much space for storage.

Any advice? Where does everyone buy their laundry sink and cabinets from?

what style of door do you have and what's the width of the door and distance from each corner to the side of the door opening? a new laundry sink and cabinet can be purchased from most Hardware or plumbing supply stores but you'll need a plumber to replace the sink but should first have the existing plumbing checked to help decide the best size and position for the sink ....it's also possible to have the washing machine taps moved to under the sink for a more streamlined look and a skinny tub that's only about 350 wide in a steel cabinet would allow some leftover space for a free standing bookshelf style shelving unit or have custom made cabinet to create a counter with a drop in skinny sink with fitted shelves to suit what you need to store..but, when changing any wet room you'll also need to consider taps, waterproofing, tiles, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, flooring and painting and it can be challenging trying to organise all the separate trades so a builder or specialist kitchen and bathroom company would be able to arrange all the work and supply the sink and cabinetry and if you're considering work on your bathroom and kitchen it might be worthwhile to negotiate a price for all the work even if it's to be done in stages...

Thanks all for the wonderful comments. Ive made some redesign, and taken lots of points from you all. Big Reader: agree to have some window/lights on southern wall of mud corridor to allow light through. clerestory is a great idea Nik Star: Your suggestion make practical sense about having a dropzone once when I walk through. Ive moved that, move the coat hook/bench with below seat drawers north of it, and added a small cabinet for hooks. Ive made a deep shoe cabinet on the east side where dropzone used to be. this keeps it in all one area. OkLouise: Thanks for big advice on laundry: I know now where to put laundry baskets, and have added in that extra linen cabinet. I might just access the whole understairs from the stairwell entrance instead. The southern bench space Ill keep now: can use to drop groceries and maybe could provision space for a future wide fridge, and great idea to make bench with open knee space underneath so can be a work area. Girlguides: Ive move the tough slight so can have elbow room on either side. I have a feeling the builder would want to keep plumbing/drainage of sink/WM close together. If the rumpus is going to be used as a family day care room, then I think the powder room should be accessible from there. This will make it so much easier for one person to supervise the kids in the room as well as the one who is heading off to the toilet. Perhaps you also need a wet area in there for cleaing up after messy activities. I know someone with a similar family day care set up, and they have toilet and laundry attached to the back of the garage/daycare space. And then the kitchen is adjacent, this makes life a lot easier for the sole person in charge of the kids.

I was just thinking of making more of a substantial open living space, in terms of the extra floor space to the east, as I can see it being the part of the house that we would be in all the time. In terms of the north side, we are on a corner block and so there is a 4 metre setback on that side, which we are already at. I don't know much about these things, but I assume that wouldn't be able to be changed. I am planning a nice garden on that side of the house anyway, which I am excited about, and we like to have the space all around the house (i.e. no fences close to any of our windows, giving the feeling of privacy and space in a modest suburban block). The other thing I think of a lot is regarding passive solar design principles, and having our house oriented the way it is (West facing), I am reluctant to do anything too major unless we can really capitalise on this. Having the bedrooms on the northern side does work really well for us at the moment, as we use them a lot - with small children napping and my husbands office being on that side. Although that will change when the kids grow up... I'm hoping we can at least add some skylights or something like that into the extension area/kitchen in order to bring in more light. Our kitchen is quite dark and cold in winter.

A floor plan is needed and where the solid door leads to and any other doors or fixtures in the room. It seems a waste of space if that is the only useable area in the room. Can you move doors?

The door is a sliding door, so no issues about it opening inward. I have the plumber booked in and also a professional for waterproofing. Thanks for the advice it has been helpful.
