I like the clay toned greys in your artwork, the abstract art provides the palette, although it is reminiscent of finger painting, so I would introduce pottery or ceramic decor, possibly a geometric, sculptured ceramic lamp base instead of those modern stems, they have little character, adding pottery lamp bases would double as art in the form of sculpture, and cluster some items of interest on the bedsides. It would benefit from timbers, natural tones, not he dark rich colours that already exist, in contrast, softer honey toned oaks, perhaps a nice timber tray on one side table,or even a timber digital clock. Te bed needs layers of texture, using these grey tones, a mid grey chunky cable knit throw, crisp white sheets, charcoal linen cover etc, layer up cushions with this abstract kr geometric print in these simple monochromatic tones. The greys are blue based, so introduce some navy in your linen. I think the best way to add interest into a guest room, is with the side tables, they don't have to match, or should have multi purposes, like housing books, or a throw etc. And if your corners could allow, introduce a plant, perhaps an indoor palm, green lofe always adds comfort to an otherwise empty guest bedroom.

Hi Rob , You are entering an exciting time with a new home, good luck with it all . Just a couple of suggestions : (1) Any reason you are note considering an architect to be involved ? When chosen carefully they can be very cost effective , plus they will create the unique custom one off that you are after. Their design concepts will go far beyond just what the exterior looks like Rob, they will also consider ( for example) how a skillion roofline has other functional benefits like incorporating high line ( clerestory) windows that will bring fabulous light into the centre of your new home etc. They will also advise on orientation and wind etc etc and lots more . (2) Regardless of whether an architect is involved, I would suggest that you seriously consider getting someone to create a 3D walkthrough of your new home so that you can walk through and around it before you spend your money on construction. It really does let you see the visual effects, plus because the 3D is to scale , it will help you sort out any potential issues with design and /or construction in advance( i.e. saves you time and money during construction ) . The 3D's can be created once you have your plans and elevations completed. You can get the 3D's created fairly cheaply ( a few hundred $'s ) on www.freelancer.com where professionals from around the globe compete for your project . It is money well spent , and you can see the colours and textures in lifelike scenarios , so it takes away the mystery and what if's . To Nicole K..OOOOOOH That sounds really classy! Why didn't anybody come up with that earlier on? I don't drink...but just for the decorator touch, if I had that fridge and that space, I'd get the calssiest alcohol shelving and fill it with the most elegant bottles available......suppose the real thing would cost a mint...so I'd hunt for the bottles and fill them with the appropriately coloured liquid...food colouring dye and water ought to do it. Maybe just one real bottle....my brandy for the upset tum. What a good idea!

Thanks Jen Osborne!! Will have to check out this photo shop thing!! Many thanks for everyones input!! My main dilemma, which I should have explained before, is that this area of the house was actually added on im guessing about 20 years after the main home. So the main home is about 50's style architecture and this bit is retro 70's . The old part of the house has alot of beautiful ceiling roses, cornice, and chandeliers. I want to try and blend the two a little. I am thinking I might change the walls back to white and do the french door black. I am hoping to decorate around the mustard yellow window, by bringing that colour into the room via a rug etc. Please see photos added of other parts of the house to show the style. Im also thinking I will remove the cowhide cushions and see what it looks like.
