Kitchen splashback advice & waterfall end or not?

We are in the final stages of our kitchen plan and undecided what splashback would work best with our design & also not sure whether we should have a waterfall on the end of our bench.

We have chosen 20mm Essastone Calcite for our bench and white gloss for the handleless cabinets & drawers (stone sample pic attached).

Our space is small so we are going for a modern clean look which also ties in with the rest of our decor which has a relaxed coastal feel. The flooring will be a light coloured timber vinyl.(kitchen design & mood board of our adjacent living area attached).

Originally we were thinking of having a mirrored splashback to open up the space but not sure if it will look too shiny and not work with the rest of our decor.

Any advice on the splashback and waterfall end would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, your Waterfall End will certainly add to the Modernist Style you are wanting. From your drawings; so too would extending your tall overheads up the ceiling and finishing these with a thin 19mm shaddow mould, as opposed to the bulkhead that is drawn in at the moment.

The photos below have one that we have made with a natural black shaddow mould and the other we made for our clients using a white shaddow mould.

With your colour scheme you indicate, you actually have infinite options of colour and material type available to you for splashbacks, ranging from tiles, Glass, sheet porcelain, metals, or stone. Mirror can work well, you may also like to consider a Smoked Glass Mirror, giving the reflective qualities you mention while also being a little darker than silver mirror and so having a less "shinny" feel as in photo at the bottom.

Thanks for your advice Malcolm much appreciated. The extended overheads look great and I will consider a smoky mirror for the splashback.

You can always go with textured glass or slump glass,it has a more rustic look and doesn't look so modern as plain glass, it's much easier to keep clean too as it doesn't streak and there is no grout...we have a very traditional kitchen and it looks amazing,this is my laundry and is actually quite a vibrant purple with dragonflies on it because,in the laundry,why not? The kitchen is more nuetral......

I have seen black sinks done and they were nice and gave me second thoughts, but after consideration I was happy to keep to stainless in my new kitchen. What gives me concern is you have black in your appliances and sink that could give the finished result a very patchy look - depends on how everything is laid out. I too, was going to choose a glass spashback but at the last minute changed my mind as I was worried it would look a little too bland. Instead I chose pale glass mosaic tiles - not cheap - but I am now so happy I did, they just look amazing, are the real focal point of the kitchen and get endless compliments. They change colour through the day according to the light or reflect other things on the bench or even my clothing, to give the kitchen a different look every time I walk into it. With everything else so plain in the kitchen, they really give it a lift. Sorry I can't post a photo for you as I don't have my computer at the moment.

Personally I think the tiles will be to busy if you go dark tile and white grout. I am about to order a smoked mirror splash back for my new white and charcoal kitchen, but I am getting patterned stainless bench tops and have rimu floors and trims, I like you was in a real dilemma with my splash back, but had a very clear mind with everything else. All the best with your project.

The splashback was just completed. Some hard decisions had to be made on the day regarding the laying of the tile. I personally thought it was best to use as many full size tiles as possible. Rather thwn using more tiles and cutting them in half. Also a hard decision was whether to lay the centre tile, centre to the stove or to the bench. As seen in the photo we chose bench. As predicted earlier in the comments, it give the kitchen a nice elegant subtle appearance. And the two "earthy" materials (wood and concrete) complement each other greatly. Not sure if the photo does justice, but they look great and am happy with the decisions.
