To be blunt -- the room isn't really big enough ! So you have to sort out priorities , and space . You have a dining table , and a computer desk . Can you get rid of the computer desk , by having your computer tower mounted behind the couch or similar , and a wireless keyboard and mouse that you can use on the dining table ? Mount the monitor on a wall , or if you don't need in depth graphics , I understand you can use your TV ( I've heard something about the 'refresh rate' is less on a TV ? ) . Maybe even have a monitor but also the option of using your TV ? Could you use a 'breakfast bar' , probably where the computer desk is now , I know its not sociable all staring at a wall , but it would/could serve as a brakfast bar and computer workstation . Could you get rid of the dining table and chairs , and have a large coffee table , or 2 smaller ones , and eat 'casually' ( my polite way of saying eat sitting on the couch ) ? Even mounting the TV on the wall will let you get rid of the cabinet , but I gather you have gaming consoles in there ? And the present arrangement with the pot plants uses some space -- maybe some shelves with them on will still retain the plants but free up floor space ? Just some thoughts off the top of my head .

Sorry, I can't send photos at the moment as we are having our kitchen renovated and all the lounge furniture is stacked and covered. Our house was built in 1960 but everyone thinks it is a seventies house because it looks just like them. We have been progressively renovating and the kitchen is the last thing to do. We actually bought mid century modern style furniture from the Modern Furniture shop in New Farm/ Fortitude Valley in Brisbane, and a parker dining suite from an antique shop. (My partner hates clutter.) The area in our house that is the same as the one where you have your TV actually has had a set of internal stairs cut into it going down, and we have a piano in the remaining space with our buffet up against the balustrade. We did have our dining suite in the same space as you have yours, but it is an 8 seater, so we swapped the dining and lounge furniture and put our 2 seater sofa, 2 armchairs and oval glass coffee table against the wall opposite the kitchen. We use both more now because the dining space is bigger and the lounge space is cosy and inviting. We have a large area downstairs which we have turned into a combination mancave/TV area/ entertainment, casual dining and summer living space as the concrete floor keeps it cool and comfortable. What I love about a big space like this is that you can change it around if you find it's not working for you as it is, or if you just feel like a change. Having to keep to the TV points reduces that flexibility a bit, but maybe you could consider swapping around the dining area? It's just a matter of figuring out what works best for how you like to live, and trying out different configurations might help you do that.

You have an interesting asymmetrical room with lots of great features. Looking at how you have set it up it appears that you are trying to force it to be symmetrical, which is like putting a round peg in a square hole. I would be looking to relocate the TV/stereo at 45 degrees into the dead corner so it isn't the focal point of the room, and doesn't block the window. Move the sofas into an L shape in the opposite corner for starters. Once you have an asymmetrical layout that works for your household then consider artwork, house plants, and better lighting. If you are lost then hire a professional for a visit or do an online consultation. Remember moving furniture around is cheaper than painting and decorating. If you want to spend some money there are lots of ways for a clever designer to design some custom cabinetwork to make all the tech go away. I looked , and focussed on different things to everyone else . Starting with the ceiling , the grey fan doesn't really do with the rest , and the round dome light definitely doesn't . You have a cane seat that I assume you want to keep , so change the fan to a rattan one , go Hamptons to tie in with the white plantation blinds , terracota and cane . And then stick to the same theme with a light -- something country chic . Or go for 5 or 6 downlights , but that depends on ability to get into the roof cavity . The 1960's green on the couch just looks dated -- keep the couch , and get new covers done in a woven wheat , or possibly even a similar blue to your 2 chairs . Add some cushions -- personally , I'd go warm red and orange and yellow , but with wheat , you can go blue and teal and a brighter green . Or sell it and get a new couch -- may cost more , may be similar price -- I guess it depends on your attachment to the existing one . The 2 chairs IMO are fine , and even looks to tie in with the sideboard , BUT the small table with steel legs doesn't . Move it to another room , or sell it , and a get something with the same toned wooden legs . I'd go timber top , probably in a white to tie in with the shutters , but wood or even charcoal would work . A rug is the one thing I agree with -- terracotas look cold in winter . Nice , mid-bright , warm colours . Abstract artwork in similar but complementary colours , even brighter , will add that Wow to the room , A bright coloured mid to larger glazed pot with a leafy plant , or a cactus or similar , will add some interest and something living . So that leaves the one thing I have left out -- the TV . Without seeing the rest of the house , I would actually be tempted to flip the room , have the TV below the aircon unit , the couch back where the sideboard is , OR as others have said , further 'in' , and maybe have a study nook or home office or kids play area there ? Just throwing some ideas around .
