Need Help With External Colours and Design
Comments (17)totally agree and would not like to any of the above lollie pop colours, Using White & black trims is classic and ageless and works beautifully with the bricks and terracotta roof. The brief is to keep the budget in mind, and I agree with not rendering or painting the brick especially just the front. Other than what is already planned, I'd concentrate on painting windows and trims and as mentioned replacing the gutters and down pipes, making over the driveway and clean up and plant the garden. Something that might make the house look a bit more up to date is how the carport is filled, will the wall facing the street be board that's rendered , timber, cut metal sheets or 50's concrete blocks painted or not. When you used to fly into Sydney it was a sea of red roofs now they're all monument and the walls similar. cheers...See MoreExternal White Colour Help and Colorbond Roof Colour
Comments (20)I just googled & found this site, which quotes cost of R2.5 75mm. there are other suppliers as well. What was quoted to you for cost of roof installation, and was it itemised so you can see exactly what thickness the foil-backed insulation builder will use? I'm guessing the thinner (lower R factor). So, the new quote should reflect a credit for the cost of previous insulation, since it won't be used, then cost of thicker insulation added. Does that make sense? If you are unsure, best to speak with the builder. https://www.pricewiseinsulation.com.au/product/heavy-duty-fletcher-permastop/...See MoreNeed help with external colours please. keeping ironstone roof and red
Comments (3)You have a smart, crisp home with a traditional style. It looks like your windows are maybe a powder-coated aluminium in white. It is quite a big exercise to paint these as the frames are so narrow. A smooth powder coated finish needs a bit of preparation (without damaging the glass) to prepare it for new paint. Had you considered where your black paint stops? At the moment the frames look like they are the same colour on the outside as the inside as they are powder-coated aluminium. If you paint them black on the outside, then it will look messy if you leave them white on the inside. I would be maintaining the white window frames and spending the money saved on a better finish for your concrete slab verandah. Possibly a deep blue/grey slab finish similar to Ironstone, and pick up the tiled window sills in the same colour. I would also consider painting gutters, fascias, arched beams and posts all in a crisp white, possibly even Dulux Vivid White, to match the window frames. This scheme will be timeless, understated and elegant, and will complement the red terracotta brick and ironstone roof beautifully. You don't need to introduce another colour when you already have two strong colours to compete with. Comments (2)If they are timber trades I would stain or oil them. The stringers can be a dark contrast. But can you post a pic of house so we can see what you have to work with...See MoreLuke Micallef
