Outdoor entertaining area advice please!!
Comments (7)Were the original plants Ficus by any chance? There are trees that you could use to fit in between those day beds like the newer mop tops - not the Robinia which suckers profusely. You dont want anything too big, just a small tree with a trunk and a canopy. I would put them in between the seats and at each end and you can keep the canopies trimmed. Ficus should NEVER be planted anywhere near homes, not even as street trees - their roots are just appalling. They are great in pots, but leave them there. Another option to consider would be the native Frangipani - Hymenosporum flavum. Do some research - its fun!...See MoreOutdoor patio area dilemma
Comments (6)Looks like the drain that the down pipe goes into isn't working as it should, over flows before water enters the drain. Love the random pavers, these could certainly be reused adding a few more to replace the bricked area all on one level as this would enable a better space for outdoor table and chairs. The pergola is tired and would be great if as you mentioned could be raised up a bit, depends on what the Body Corporate will allow, a couple of see through panels inserted above next to the building would help with light. A BBQ kitchen on the back wall, plus I would try to re swing the door back to it, the door gets in the way as it is, can it open inwards opposite the sink. Certainly keep the garden beds it will help soften all the hard surfaces, taller planting along the boundary will also add privacy cheers...See MoreCan I use the same type of tile for both indoor and outdoor areas?
Comments (0)Yes, it is possible to use the same type of tile for both indoor and outdoor areas, depending on the specific tile and the requirements of the project. However, there are a few considerations to keep in mind: Slip Resistance: Outdoor areas, especially in Sydney where weather conditions can be unpredictable, may require tiles with higher slip resistance to ensure safety, particularly when wet. It's important to select tiles that are suitable for outdoor use and have a slip-resistant rating appropriate for the specific application. Durability: Outdoor tiles should be able to withstand exposure to UV rays, temperature fluctuations, moisture, and other environmental factors. Ensure that the tiles you choose are specifically designed for outdoor use and can withstand the elements. Porosity and Water Absorption: Outdoor tiles should have low water absorption rates to prevent damage from freeze-thaw cycles and excessive moisture. Be sure to select tiles with appropriate porosity levels for outdoor applications. Consulting with professional Sydney tilers is highly recommended when choosing tiles for both indoor and outdoor areas. They have expertise in understanding the specific requirements of different tile types and can guide you in selecting the most suitable options for your project. By working with experienced tilers, you can ensure that the tiles chosen for your indoor and outdoor areas are not only visually cohesive but also meet the necessary safety, durability, and performance requirements. They can provide recommendations based on their knowledge of the local climate in Sydney and help you achieve a seamless and functional tile installation throughout your property....See MoreThe Ultimate Guide to Cleaning and Maintaining Outdoor Areas: Tips for
Comments (0)Introduction Outdoor areas like patios and balconies provide a beautiful extension to our living spaces, allowing us to enjoy the fresh air and relax in a natural environment. However, these areas are exposed to the elements and can accumulate dirt, debris, and wear over time. In this blog post, we will explore some valuable tips for cleaning and maintaining outdoor areas, ensuring they remain inviting and enjoyable spaces for years to come. Clearing and Preparing the Space Before diving into the cleaning process, it's essential to clear and prepare the outdoor area. Follow these steps: a. Remove Furniture and Accessories Start by removing any furniture, planters, or accessories from the patio or balcony. This step allows for a thorough cleaning and prevents damage to these items. b. Sweep or Brush Away Debris Using a broom or brush, sweep away loose dirt, leaves, and debris from the surface. Pay attention to corners, crevices, and hard-to-reach areas. c. Check for Damages Inspect the area for any damages, such as cracks or loose tiles. Addressing these issues early on will prevent further deterioration and ensure a safe environment. Deep Cleaning Techniques Once the space is prepared, it's time to deep clean and rejuvenate the outdoor area. Consider the following cleaning techniques: a. Pressure Washing A pressure washer can be a powerful tool for cleaning patios and balconies. Adjust the pressure settings according to the surface material (concrete, wood, etc.) and follow the manufacturer's instructions for safe usage. b. Scrubbing and Stain Removal For stubborn stains, mix a solution of warm water and mild detergent. Use a scrub brush or sponge to gently scrub the surface. You can also try specialized cleaners for specific stains like rust or grease. c. Removing Mold and Mildew If you notice mold or mildew growth, prepare a solution of water and bleach or vinegar. Apply the solution to the affected areas, let it sit for a few minutes, then scrub and rinse thoroughly. Wear protective gloves and ensure proper ventilation when working with these solutions. Regular Maintenance Practices To keep your outdoor area in top shape, regular maintenance is crucial. Here are some maintenance practices to follow: a. Regular Sweeping and Clearing Make it a habit to sweep or brush your patio or balcony regularly, removing any debris or fallen leaves. This simple practice prevents dirt buildup and keeps the area looking tidy. b. Weed Control Keep an eye out for weeds growing through cracks or between tiles. Remove them promptly to prevent them from spreading and causing damage. c. Seasonal Cleaning Perform a thorough cleaning of your outdoor area at the beginning and end of each season. This helps remove any accumulated dirt and prepares the space for the changing weather conditions. d. Furniture Care Regularly clean and maintain your outdoor furniture according to the manufacturer's instructions. This includes wiping down surfaces, checking for rust or damage, and applying protective treatments if necessary. Enhancing the Ambiance Lastly, consider these tips to enhance the ambiance of your outdoor area: a. Adding Plants and Greenery Introduce potted plants, flowers, or hanging baskets to add a touch of nature and color to your patio or balcony. Choose plants that thrive in your specific climate and require minimal maintenance. b. Outdoor Lighting Install outdoor lighting to create a warm and inviting atmosphere during the evening hours. String lights, lanterns, or solar-powered fixtures can provide both functionality and aesthetics. c.
