Kitchen makeover ideas desperately needed!
Want to paint the cupboards? White and updating the handles – any advice on colour and if I should get them done in 2pac or just paint myself?
Also want to change the pantry door - thinking two doors same as rest of kitchen.
Happy with island top, but too deep - thinking hidden doors where the barstools are and create access from both sides.
? Change the rest of the bench tops to wood or stone the same as the island?
Any ideas for the corner where the roll up door is? Such a waste of space - as can‘t physically reach into the corner of the cupboard ? Put in another pantry style cupboard?
Also not sure of what to do with the space above the oven (will put in new appliances) - but this is a void which I have no idea what to do with!
Any other comments/suggestions welcome!!

Comments (12)Wow. So much potential! I would definitely paint white, re place the back splash, and remove the pot holder. The old saying of 'you have to spend money to make money' wouldn't go astray here. If the budget allows....i would consider new flooring. Correct me if i am wrong, however the flooring looks to be cork. This particular style and colour is very out dated. This could potential be a factor with the buyers. it looks like it could be a descent size home, perhaps buyers see the amount of extra $ that needs to be spent?? just a thought. I think we are nearly there, and are pretty happy with the result...we still ended up with the door into bedroom from hall....but think it will be ok.....may swing the door the other way...will put doors on bathroom and sitting(not shown) I like the 2 dressing areas we have created either side of our wardrobes, and the seperate toilet. Comments (9)This is what our 80's kitchen looked like when we bought the house, it's now lovely and simple, we have a long tall black wall which starts at the courtyard and runs all the way down the passage. That black wall along with white cabinets and timber work for us. Would have loved a timber floor but the tiles worked better in our situation. But if you were wanting to stay true to 80's you would look to use simple timber cabinets to work with your floor adding a concrete look benchtop, which I would loved if it wasn't so darned expensive at the time...See More

5 years agoThanks Dr Retro House Calls, had a beautiful kitchen (for its time - see pic) in my previous house with stunning polished limestone tiles and honed limestone bench top.. didn’t get round to updating all the appliances (after spending so much on the kitchen and oven).. but agree to increase the functionality of my current kitchen, a new one would be ideal. However I also have an antiquated bathroom, en-suite and every other room needs to be decorated in the house (every room is wallpapered and curtains all mouldy). I don’t want to over capitalise as we are in rural NZ. So will probably paint for now and update later. I also have a 1 year old and I remember how precious about my old kitchen I was! At least I can touch up paint myself! But I will get someone out to quote to give me an idea.

5 years agoIf you can afford it the floor being all the same material would make a big difference. The roller door cabinet could be more of a sideboard. Two doors on the pantry will be better when open
I would love to see your kitchen blue and white with timber, (Bunnings) and keep the Island bench so that you can sit up to it but you could possibly add a trash cabinet under the end overhang
