What about Bird of Paradise. Mass planted. They will grow snout 4-5 feet tall itch the flower spikes standing above that. They are as tuff as nails, love tropical conditions. Have an Asian contemporary feel about them. Are very sculptural. Interesting foliage and amazing flowers. You can plant Xanadu philodendrons between that will act like a sub layer and fill in the gaps with their own interesting leaf formations. On that front corner where your stack stone and letterbox are I would keep it low and simple for the posties access. Mini variegated lomandra as that will highlight the darkness of the wall. Try to get in as much good soil as you can before you plant as it looks like it's clay, if so dig in some gypsum. Great soil equals happy plant.

Timandra knows best, I believe, and has the experience to back her up. My comment is not plant-related, however. You have a front facade of door after door, and nowhere to go, except a narrow horizontal path. How about some front terraces, where you can burst out of one of those front rooms onto a sunny sitting area to have your morning coffee with a neighbor. Why not leave some doors open or change to glass, so the front terrace becomes an outdoor room, and extention of the interior space. How about a pedestrian walk out to the street, or over to the pictured tree, evergreen and plant bed, where you could have a shady terrace. Enjoy the outdoors, don't let your family become nature-deprived, with all the electronics that occupy our kids lives these days. Get them unplugged and outside - you too! You have a wonderful opportunity to achieve great things. Analyze first, then plan.

I think the house looks beautiful as is, don't think the carport overwhelming at all, paint front door black as suggested, black light fitting, get advice on porch tiles for repair or replace, plant viburnum hedge (emerald lustre) shiny lush foliage under window, a row of ornamental pears along neighbours side, underplant with box or continue viburnum hedge for a designer look, standard ficus hilli either side of door in beautiful pots would look great, yout daughter has a beautiful house

We underplanted our ornamental pears with viburnum ‘Emerald lustre’ I just love this plant, it withstands all weather conditions and always looks great with shiny lush foliage, I would add a watering system so your trees and hedge don’t compete for water and it saves you time also.
