Needing advice on colour combination in kitchen
So we recently renovated our kitchen, we’ve gone for a traditional look, black marble bench tops, crisp white shaker cabinets with black handles and a high gloss tapered subway tile. We have a fair bit of French doors and windows in the house so we wanted to incorporate this into the kitchen wall cabinetry. Initially we just assumed we would go with white French glass doors, but I’ve since seen a beautiful dove grey that I’ve fallen in love with. Could this work with the black bench tops and white floor cabinetry?
My hubby thinks it will look odd, but we have a grey couch in the adjoining room and also a greyish feature wall, so I’m thinking it could all tie together..
I haven’t been able to find any photos online of similar colour schemes. I will attach some photos of how our kitchen looks and the cabinets I’d like to hang.
Any advice would be so appreciated :)

Comments (26)I think the fridge is in a great spot - you need it to be near the walkway so people can grab something from the fridge, without invading your space. I totally agree with keeping the services out of the island bench. I would allow 800mm between the stove and sink as you are always jumping between the two when cooking and it will minimise the amount of water getting spilt on the floor. You should make sure the dishwasher is on the far side of the sink to avoid clashing between any one stacking/unpacking dishwasher and someone cooking. If you put the sink in the pantry with all you dishes it can be really inconvenient for a family that is trying to interact with the kids. I like a pantry for storage and running a mixmaster to muffle noise in the living space. If you can place the dishwasher on the bench behind the pantry that will help. Comments (2)Hi an68888 I think I understand your question. Any kitchen manufacturer that custom makes cabinetry near you will tint your Polyurethane to any colour your heart desires. In choosing this colour, you may like to start by going to your local paint store and picking up some colour charts from various different brands to get an idea of options available. 5 years agoThe issue that you have, which is common in many kitchens with lots of different white materials, such as white cabinetwork and white splashback is that they are different whites. I can see from the photo that your cabinetwork is a subtle warm white, whereas your splashback is a cooler, crisper white. It isn't too obvious as you have the black benchtop meaning that the two whites are not adjacent. However if you introduce overhead cupboards that are the same white as the base cabinetwork there won't be any separation to the splashback tiles and the difference between the two whites will look more obvious, and perhpas a little mismatched.
The dove-grey overheads is not the answer, especially with the crisp white interior, which will compound your problem. The answer is to make the overheads in a black, including the interioir, with glazed doors, glass shelves and lighting. It will tie in beautifully with your benchtop and handles, and counterbalance the whites.

5 years agoI will upload some more photos of the kitchen and where I was hoping to put cabinets in.
I’m not really keen with going black cabinets as it’s already a small kitchen and putting a dark colour on the wall scares me! Haha.
So if the dove grey won’t work, can anyone suggest another colour that would work?
I’m so confused now haha ♀️
The walls are quite cream now but we do intend to paint them a light grey or crisp white, depending on the cabinet colour choice

With two tone Federation Kitchen Cabinets, we usually use the darker colour on the lower levels so as to avoid creating a sense of the room being top heavy, but having said this; your Kitchen should always be a reflection of your own personal taste and individuality. As with these images indicate, using a darker colour on your overhead cabinets can work when choosing the right colour and placement and so I encourage you to go with what you like.siriuskey
5 years agolast modified: 5 years agoYour kitchen is lovely and any wall cabinets would be too high and hard to reach, would you consider just building the fridge and pantry up to the ceiling in the same colour with the cornice brought out around that and leaving the open shelves as they look the ducks guts as the are. Can you do a drawing showing this
