What color window frames for our contemporary country home?
Comments (11)@Rachael It's a dilemma, isn't it?! Our house in the bush has ended up with anodised window frames and galvanised iron cladding (i.e. silver that will dull to grey) with a Monument roof. The view is huge and I think the black window frames - while I love them would have looked too urban and have framed the view too much, if that's possible. The view is so big we wanted to look 'through' the windows and their frames. Also, as I said above, dusty exterior window ledges would have driven us nuts. However, if I were in an urban setting, I would have gone for black windows and the dark roof if my views were more intimate. Good luck with the decision making ......See MoreSuggest new colour scheme for our new house
Comments (13)I agree with Billmore Homes paperbark is a very nice colour and goes well with Jasper http://colorbond.com/colour?Category=4969402186C2455AB302B1ECD6FE7176 The idea to use double strength is good for outside projects because the light can affect colour so much at different times of the day. Soft greys are back in fashion too so don't overlook Ironstone, Basalt and Wallaby( the web link shows what I mean by those colour titles) if you are stuck with the blue door it can be hard to coordinate with blue but you can alter its shade slightly by a freshen-up coat of the original colour or a tone or two darker or a few drops of black (and I mean drops) is amazing the depth it adds to a paint tone without changing the overall colour....See MoreWhat colour should I paint my new home?
Comments (15)Hi Sue, I think the wall colour (white looks like an white/off white) is lovely. It’s neutral and light, and will be the best back drop for any soft furnishings. I would suggest maybe updating some of your furniture. Your sofas look in good condition, so re-upholstering to change the colour may be a expensive option. in a bid to save some money, perhaps updating your rug to a lighter/more neutral pattern/colour (look at armadillo rugs) is a better option. Also updating your dining setting (perhaps something with chair upholstery to compliment the sofa, and even a large light coloured marble top) to be more contemporary and in keeping with your lounge suite would be the way to go. My clients often find it difficult to part with certain pieces that hold sentimental value, but often a new home requires a furniture update. In summary, I’m not convinced changing wall colour will be able to link all your furniture together. Stick with one piece that works well (ie. the sofa) and work towards updating the rest. Good luck!...See Morehow much glass can be used when building a new home & how to clean?
Comments (3)"Too much" glass can also cause concerns for energy efficiency. We are trying to build on a rural property with great views and wanted to take it all in with big windows etc. We've had major problems getting the plans passed and had to reduce the size (or remove completely) some windows just to pass the Basix report before we could even submit plans to council....See More
