Our last home had wood in every room except the bathroom, and after 10 years it still looked fine. Even the kitchen looked good. That said, we didn't have kids running around in the house. Did (and still do) have a dog, though. Our current house has carpeting in the bedrooms, engineered wood in the living areas, and tile in the bathrooms and laundry. All three floor coverings have a similar greigish tone, so to my mind they look fine together, and meet the practicality and comfort criteria as well....See MoreLooking for advice/options/opinions on new home colour!

However, a dark grey or charcoal would visually recede the home and allow the garden and additional plants to 'pop'. Instead of painting your home a light colour, which attracts attention, a darker colour will allow other aspects of the home to shine. Are the doors red cedar? I'd leave them natural but coat or stain them to bring out the wood features. Add a couple of large pots with trees, such as a Lilli Pilli or Plane Trees depending on space, so the foliage will frame the doors....See MoreWhat colour should I paint my new home?
Comments (15)Hi Sue, I think the wall colour (white looks like an white/off white) is lovely. It’s neutral and light, and will be the best back drop for any soft furnishings. I would suggest maybe updating some of your furniture. Your sofas look in good condition, so re-upholstering to change the colour may be a expensive option. in a bid to save some money, perhaps updating your rug to a lighter/more neutral pattern/colour (look at armadillo rugs) is a better option. Also updating your dining setting (perhaps something with chair upholstery to compliment the sofa, and even a large light coloured marble top) to be more contemporary and in keeping with your lounge suite would be the way to go. My clients often find it difficult to part with certain pieces that hold sentimental value, but often a new home requires a furniture update. In summary, I’m not convinced changing wall colour will be able to link all your furniture together. Stick with one piece that works well (ie. the sofa) and work towards updating the rest. Good luck!...See MoreAll about modular homes: pros and cons of this type of housing
