What do other Houzzers think of my lounge room colour scheme?
Comments (82)Ok, don't like the dark cushion, don't like the TV in the bedroom. You could go for pendant lighting using the same 'material' as the mirror? If you went for larger beside lamps while you have that mirror there, they would be fighting each other. In the programs I watch, they say to have 'a hero in the room'. In this case the mirror is the hero I think. Also the extra throw cushion for the bed could match one on the chair, so it ties in (or don't have one at all on the bed). If you did need a TV what about having one installed on the wall to the right of the chair,(looking at the photo) and make sure it can swivel out, so when you aren't watching TV in bed it can be against the wall, out of the way. Then you can have a lovely (glass) ornament or two, or a bunch of flowers sitting on it along with your photos. I love how you have your bed dressed, spot on! (without the dark cushion) I absolutely adore the blue shades in the duvet cover and I would draw those out into the room. Love that you have opened up your windows in the lounge. Maybe a throw rug and some colourful (same colours as in the duvet cover on your bed) cushions on the lounge suite as nothing is really popping! There doesn't seem to be any colour except for the flowers and the photos. Colourful paintings on the wall would be lovely too. Maybe the potted plants could be in coloured (as in your duvet cover) pots instead of white. I know you weren't asking about the lounge and if you are happy with it, then that is all that matters. Well done....See MoreHow would you furnish?
Comments (7)Image 1 with bigger kitchen. Looks quite good. Dining area is very generous at 6000mm, as is the laundry at 2500mm wide. Many laundry's are 1800 wide which is acceptable so 2500 is generous indeed. Good for ironing and clothes sorting. Cavity slider to pantry as it'll be open 99% of the time and look like 'no door'. Make study bigger by relocating the bedroom BIR to run along the hallway wall near the door. It'll make the bedroom smaller, say 3300 (600mm for BIR) but thats still quite good for a single bedroom. Also easier to furnish as it reduces circulation pathways across the bedroom. Also make entry area wider with the possibility of a wall to define the entry rather than entering directly into the living area. You'll need a place for coats, shoes, etc. even for guests to place down their items so a bench or a cupboard to hide everyday items is a worthy addition. Watch out for the tall windows as they diminish your furniture placement options. Privacy and energy efficiency comes into it as well. Views are important but its a combination of everything....See MoreTiles for small laundry area floor that is open plan with pine floors
Comments (28)Gorgeous brick pavers, I love that look for the floor! It has a rustic appearance yet you're right- sophisticated, even an elegance. I think this would suit the feeling I'm wanting for the room, the pine boards have a rustic appearance, this would go well with them. We have a 1m square oak table with cross back chairs for the dining section and a La Spezia 3 light pendant (Beacon), farmhouse sink, timber hood cover to give you an idea of the look we're going for. Thanks very much for your thoughts on this. I like the idea you're going with, but yes, we have the window and door in already. Door could be trimmed if necessary. It wasn't until the window was already made and the wall sheets and cladding was removed that we realised the original kitchen layout had the back door next to the window, and the door into the laundry section was a modification. I most likely would have put it back where it was originally or had double doors. It made no logical sense for the back door to be a thoroughfare through the laundry, eliminating valuable storage space. I may have just left the kitchen in the original layout and made an entry into the laundry from the kitchen side for a laundry/butler's pantry with fridge in there. Removed the side window for more wall space for storage and changed the existing door to a window. But it's too late now, the outside of the house has all been newly clad so doors and windows are as is. There's no other possible place in the house for a laundry. It is a very tight space. Plan to build an external laundry studio in the future. The one in the house would be temporary, yet need it to accommodate a washer dryer combo for now, and be suitable for prospective buyers/renters in future if the external laundry doesn't eventuate. This is the original 1960's floor plan. A previous owner made internal access into the laundry and made bench space where the original back door was, the next owners opened up the living to dining room and blocked up the hallway doorway which became the fridge space. The cornice didn't match up in the hallway though where the old doorway was. They had made a shelf from the cut out on the hallway side, and the protruding section in the kitchen side became a kind of bulkhead for the fridge. Old hallway We've rebuilt this so that it could have an upper cabinet on the kitchen side/ hallway later if needed. But the lack of space in the hallway didn't allow us to build a linen cupboard, so that will also be needed to be included somewhere in the house. At this stage, thinking we will have to configure the laundry space to have a linen cupboard/ broom cupboard between the dining room and laundry section. Open to ideas too for storage in that limited laundry area space. I'll add more measurements to the floor plan for reference....See MoreFurnishing a narrow family room
Comments (7)I would go for your husbands idea... but move the sofa forward so you can walk into bed 4. If you have a low-backed sofa then it won't be disconnected from the kitchen, and you can see the screen. Maybe consider changing the door to a window down the track, but see how you go? if you have little kids then being able to pop in and out is pretty handy actually. It's funny how many houses are built without any thought as to where the furniture will go. Our lounge was altered and opened up so it now has 4 openings and the sofa just doesn't fit! it's a really small living area so consider if it will suit your needs long-term or if it will always feel cramped....See MoreAnna Finnane
