Help with Colour and Interior Design Theme
Comments (7)Yes, use them, just add some modern elements to counteract them. Walls must change, and bring in metallic, maybe bronze or brushed brass in a coffee table, it works well to make nostalgia into luxe. The curtains work ok here, just update their hanging system. If those mustard chairs are grannies, I wish I had that gran. The blue is perfect with mustard, and vibrant enough to detract and contrast the mint green carpet. I would definately select a colour in that rug, perhaps I can see a slight coral red, then I would introduce varying shadesof this diluted down into pastel tones. This will comp, ement the mint and subtly introduce more depth of colour which will overtake the institution green. Paint your walls absolutely. Not beige. I would go with a Chocolate colour, I think the richness would work with that lounge suite and also MInt green and chocolate are friends. Chocolate is also complementary to stones, beiges, creams and coffees, so whatever direction your kitchen eventually goes, chocolate will work. And if not, it's only paint. To make it livable now and still have some sort of positive edge about it, I'd try risky colours and textures, ones that work but ones you probably wouldn't even think of unless you had a mint green carpet. You could always rip up the carpet and see what lies beneath. Maybe there's timber there, or concrete. Either are a bonus....See MoreHow to incorporate a gas fireplace into a very long room
Comments (9)I think one of your key considerations will be what to do with the flue / chimney. My personal thought is that you should look to punch it through the wall and keep clean lines inside, but not sure if that is feasible for you. Otherwise you might want to make a feature out of the chimney enclosure - use it to break up the length of the room. The path you choose here will inform the remaining design decisions. You have to keep in mind that an off-the-shelf fireplace unit is not going to have heaps of flexibility in terms of altering its design to suit your space. If the unit you are looking at is designed with a vertical flue and you want to punch through the wall instead, you are going to need specialist advice to make sure that the gas certification for the fireplace unit is not compromised by your alterations - or chose a different unit that suits your needs....See MorePaint colours to make my house a bit more modern
Comments (16)Three colour absolute max for your style house, and bricks count as a colour. Eaves can stay white or very light. Yes in the range of Colorbond Basat darkness but you’re not restricted to colorbond colours. There are thousands to choose from and you’ll be able to find something that works with your brick. Your driveway looks like real pavers and it will be a downgrade to paint them so be absolutely sure you can’t live with them as is. I’d do the other paint works and add a bit more lushness to your landscaping before tackling the driveway....See MoreHow to incorporate this artwork?
Comments (5)Without knowing anything else about the style of your house , or your tastes , if you are hanging that in the bedroom , how about doing the wall it is going on in wallpaper , maybe a wheat or similar in both colour but also woven texture -- make a subtle feature wall that is a bit different to the other 3 , with the picture as the main feature ? I can even imagine 2 reading lights or uplights , one each side of the bed/art , the lights maybe in a light or even pastel yellow , then some pastel yellow and pastel orange cushions/pillows on the bed -- reference the picture , without detracting or taking attention away from it ?...See MoreShelley
