Can you save the wall fill in feature holes and render it? Then get a timber slat gate and new light fittings. hope this helps. Josie.

Slats & c-iron doesn't look too flash IMO. Maybe a new slat sliding gate motorised to open/close. Then laser cut screens in between & slats to change it up a bit. e.g. sliding gate, LC-screen, slats, LC-screen.

I like the picture of your proposed fence. To me its sort of modern country cottage.

I do find it odd that your power box is on the fence though. Maybe you could have a wider piece of solid brick wall where the power box is and possibly repeat it on the other side, if symmetry is your thing.

I wouldn't be concerned about the fence being parallel, but then I like things left of centre. Maybe you could have it so the fence steps out in sections rather than being angled. So it would have a 90 degree angle, step towards the house by a metre, then you could have a small entrance gate to the house in that area. Hopefully you get what I mean!

While there are no pictures of your house , so I accept that the existing fence may not suit the house , as a fence I actually like it , and would try and use it as a 'base' . Depending on the primary house colours , I'd paint the gates and those filligres or whatever they are called , in a black gloss , and try and add a cap to each pillar , and even a top along the fence , wider than the brick .

Taking inspiration from what you term the 'japanese' slats , how about raise the pillars ( in matching brick ) 250-300mm , and add a couple of 100x25 timber rails , or 4 or 5 30x30 ones in that mid redwood stain ?

If you house totally doesn't suit the fence , how about rendering or plastering , or even use it but disguise it with vines and shrubs , even use concrete nails to attach battens and then attach the iron ?

To demolish the existing fence , and especially changing the front fence line , won't achieve much IMO , except reasonably substantial extra cost .

Thanks for all of your comments. This existing fence does have to come down, we have tried to salvage / utilize it, but it is quite dangerous. Could probably manually push it over. Our power box is located on front fence ( our block was subdivided from neighbours a few years back, and I guess that was the only structure to put it on ). So yes that portion will be block utilising existing footing. I'm going with stepping it back in to carport, then back out to boundary near gate.
House is sort of modern cottage feel.
