Any ideas on floor plan for renovation - 70y old house in Melbourne

We are plan to renovate the old house, and below is the current floor plan, the problem is:

1 only one toilet on the top left corner, far from all the bedrooms.

2 Kitchen is too small, we want to extend it - still need to be an individual kitchen, don't want to combine with the lounge.

And below is the plan we want to change.

1 Extend the kitchen.

2 Combined laundry and toilet, add a shower in the toilet.

3 Remove shower in the bathroom, add a toilet and a tub.

4 Add a small deck in back yard.

It's my first time to renovate a house, so any suggestions, ideas are welcome.

what are all the walls floors and roof built out of? are the front bedroom and rear living room additions to the original house? is there a step down to the living room and what are the thick sections of wall at the end of the bathroom and study built of?...where are the original and proposed external doors to the backyard? is there a garage and driveway or any good or bad views and where would you have a dining area?.... it's important to understand the existing structure before considering changes eg the dimensions are inconsistent (varying wall thicknesses?) and you have removed sections of wall between the kitchen and lounge but these walls may hold up the ceiling and roof...do you know which walls are load bearing?

pending more information it would be possible to add the improvements you need without removing any walls ...the only structural change would be to move the doorway between kitchen and lounge without changing the wall and closing the door between family and bedroom would make for three distinct bedrooms

Oh dear, you'd better not nag him, I am saving that for his graduation ;) Apparently it is a sticker on the till and they are not concerned, advertising is so controversial! Like others here, at first glance I assumed the view of the water was to the east, but then realised from the sun diagram that north is up the page, so I'm guessing this might be in Bundeena? I agree with most of the other suggestions and have a few of my own as well, will summarise here: - the pitched roof dominates too much, I would suggest the new master bedroom suite has a flat room, similar to the new entry; - the garage is too small and can easily be larger, especially wider and the stair could go down the side instead of at the end; - the foyer/entry is too small for a luxury property, really just a stair landing. I suggest widening it to the line of the new bedroom, and also pulling the entry doors out further to give more space there; - car turning space is questionable. Maybe the external stair could flip over to the other side of the entry to give better reversing room, if it is needed at all (3 stairs???); - give more space to the ensuite, less to the walk-in-robe; - give more space to study, taken from bed room; - angled wall (in line with deck edge) in bedroom instead of re-entrant corner would make it more spacious and allow the bed to move forward with better access; - door to laundry from pantry instead of bath room.

Hey All. I've been thinking about the 3rd bedroom which will become a childs bedroom one day, and whether I can eat into that space to make an ensuite. Take a look at these designs compared to the original and let me know what you think? (It pretty much removes 1m from the length of the room from 4 to 3m. Then there is still a wardrobe inside this, so pretty much 2.5m) Also keen on your thoughts as to what I've done with the wardrobe in the master. I've pushed it ~60cm into the room (making the room go from 4m wide to ~3.3m wide) to turn it into a walk in wardrobe. The current planned wardrobe is around 2.6m wide, but this would add another 60cm to the ends, so would turn it into around 3.8m of Wardrobe space. Does this make the room too cramped, or do you think that the left over space would be easy to work with?

Update on this. We have decided to keep upstairs unchanged in terms of layout. We will live in the house for a period before making any layout changes upstairs - 2 Bedrooms will be for our girls, while our son will sleep downstairs in the living room (now bedroom) as this was seldom going to be used. Now we are looking at the kitchen design - photos attached of current kitchen which will be completely refreshed along with the tiling in the kitchen / living area. Looking for any ideas on how to best update the kitchen - notice under the stair case is not currently being utilised but we would like to perhaps have the fridge or pantry under the stairs to include this dead space. From the kitchen window to the stair case is 4950mm x 3200mm approximately depth of the current kitchen. The stair case hangs into the kitchen around 750-800mm. Wondering if it would look silly to have perhaps the fridge built here and this cabinetry would sit proud of the bench space next to it, but we could also install deeper bench space to balance the look... We are planning to have the eye-saw built in fridge space currently in the kitchen removed altogether.

Thanks, the living room is an extension to the original house. the original house is pitched roof, and the living room is flat roof on a slab, so there are 20 cm difference on the ground, two steps.

We plan to have meals in the kitchen, there's a small square table, since we only have 2 person. And if there are more people come, we plan to eat in living room. Not sure about the structure yet, and thanks for your suggestion.

And for the vary thickness of the walls, that's my measure variance, I measured both internal and external dimensions, and in order to match them up, I drew some thick walls.

I would call in a professional. Both your current plan and proposed plan have some serious flow issues as far as the relationship between rooms and their functions, and the external spaces and light. You need someone who can think and visualise outside the box to make the most of the opportunities and work with the constraints.

The danger of using home planning software is that it lulls the inexperienced into thinking that they can design a home, whereas in reality there are so many things to consider beyond just a floor plan. Just because I can type doesn't make me a poet.
