Kitchen counter / island bench layout - your thoughts please
Comments (15)Hi Lil, I believe your original plan works much better than the revised version. While the notion of ideal working widths is great, the larger problem here is the post. I worked on a project very similar to this last year where a post could either be connect to, or separate from the island. What we found was that by separating the island the space between island and post became very awkward. It's not enough of a space to comfortably walk through or be seated at the island in front of. Instead of your room feeling open and generous in proportion, it is going to start to feel cramped and awkward. We have a kitchen in our showroom (Kitchen Studio Tauranga NZ) with a 6ft gap between bench and back wall and it works wonderfully. It allows someone to work at the sink and a second at the island with ease. Stick with the original plan. It will feel a lot more spacious, without compromising work flows....See MoreHelp me make a decision...island sink, kitchen design
Comments (27)I spent ages figuring out the lay out of our kitchen and am really happy with the result (four months in). We put the sink on the back wall, under a window and love looking out. Make sure there is a bin drawer next to the sink. Ours goes bin, sink, dishwasher, drawers, stove, drawers, oven stack. I think the passages in your kitchen area are a bit narrow. We have 1300mm between the benchtop edges. People can then pass each other easily and it doesn't matter if the drawers or dishwasher is open. The island then has drawers holding the plates and cutlery. You can unload the dishwasher straight into the opposite drawers which the kids love. You have two lots of corner cupboards in the pantry and might be better off with one straight line as I don't believe you gain much more and it will feel more spacious. Consider leaving a space on the kitchen side of the island so you can sit too. I hate standing while entertaining and everyone else is sitting at the island! Hope that helps....See MoreCan you help me how to mix and match frames and baskets please
Comments (50)Hi, I’m very late to this conversation so I apologise for butting in. I refer only to your console table in this pic and you said it looks bulky. I think the issue is the vase and the candlesticks are too similar in height so they add bulk and not enough contrast. I would remove the candlesticks altogether and place the vase offset in front of the picture with the small dish in front again. The picture would be even better if you changed the frame to a white or black with a white matt surrounding the picture, similar to the frame below. Also the lamp casts a yellow light which would be better if it was white. Either it’s the globe or the shade. If the shade, change to an off white or very soft grey. That’s my two cents worth anyway. Hope it helps 😏...See Morecan someone please recommend some ideas for this kitchen colour?
Comments (7)Thanks, it’s not so much mould as it is a bad smell. I have mould allergies but I haven’t been getting any respiratory symptoms. I agree though I don’t know what I’m doing so that’s why I come on here for advice. Now I regret the cabinets & will have to figure something out. The Kaboodle kitchens cost a lot more than the Ikea ones. Now I think the Ikea one was a waste of time. The $2000 did include the $500 hood range. I’ve found the cabinet maker rude and I’m disappointed now as I was so excited to get this done. It’s just hard for me to organise anything as I work a rotating night shift / day shift roster which is always changing along & I have insomnia. Going forward what recommendations would you have? Just pay the extra and buy a Kaboodle? I’m going to ask the cabinet installer if he can change the panels to matte (might be easy) he was a very rude made though and I’m not going to hire people off Gumtree any more. He demanded all the money up front when he hasn’t even put in the range hood which js not available in Ikea yet. He messed me around saying the cabinets would be delivered on two days when they weren’t without so much as letting me know, don’t wait around they won’t be there today. He ended up dropping the cabinets over the day before install. I will pay the extra and get it done properly next time to save the stress and so I won’t feel bad communicating my concerns to him....See MoreKeith Wing Custom Builders
