Need help and ideas for Ist floor design layout
Comments (10)Hi Jammomuzo It is always a great experience planing a new home, a great chance to look to the future and hope for great things, and its good to see the great contributions of ideas that you have received so far. The initial ground floor sketch plan that you have shown seems to consider orientation some functions with a plausible response, however I think your greatest asset is the brief, your five pages with ideas would be a good indication of your expectations, that would be my starting point with your design. Then there is always the consideration of site location, time frame, budget and non negotiable 'must have' spaces, and the expectation of all stakeholders in the project including pets if you have some. I think that you upstairs expectations are achievable, however I think that they should be planned concurrent and relating t your ground floor design. Looking at the ground floor there might be a few things you like to consider; The position of the stair on the north side, and the single flight. It might be better if you could relate the stair on the south side on the service areas and retain north light in the main living areas. Also a stair is always better with a turn and and a landing - less distance to fall, stairs and accidents go hand in hand - reduce the risk. I like the location of your guest room - cannot tell from the drawings if you have associated a bathroom or en suite with it. It wold be advantageous to have an en-suite of a small corridor so that your guest have some privacy but still be usable by the rest of the downstairs populous. It might be good to get a door from the Garage - thought a ventilated airlock - to the rest off the house. I think you have placed a hot plate or a sink on your kitchen front bench. In an emergency like a fire, instinctively one goes from the fire to the sink. It is always best to have the sink separate from the hot plate by one working station - about 800 to 1000 mm,and on the same side, this avoids the accidental spill of oils in an emergency especially if you have young children that travel very quickly around the kitchen. There are many factors to consider in a design, it takes a few revisions to obtain something that you are happy with. I hope this is of some help, it would be interesting to see the elevations and how the house develops its its character, considering that that is your intention from you initial elevation. I think to get a better understanding you would need a few 3D accurately generated computer views so as to fully understand how the spaces might look and work in the final arrangement. Wish you the best in your efforts. I would be happy to work with you or further comment on your proposal. Michael Manias - mm407p@gmail.com newhomedesign.com.au...See MoreStudy nook design help!
Comments (2)Hi, what a cute little nook in your home. Before you select a rug, mirror, and any other additional items or accessories for this room, be sure to measure the space up, so that each item you choose is proportionate to this space - this is particularly important in small spaces. A round rug is going to be the best option here, to give you softness under foot, without it dominating the little space. Armadillo & Co have some lovely Wool Blend round rugs in their Perennial Collection. I would remove the wine rack and replace it with a bar cart, sized to suit (not too large) and you could then hang a wall mirror above the bar cart - again, the wall mirror should be sized to suit the bar cart below, and a round wall mirror will provide continuity with the round floor below. You could even then consider wall sconces beside the mirror and remove the table lamp on the top of your bureau all together. I would replace it with a piece of photographic art directly above the bureau, and add a few simple accessories to style the top of the bureau - a short vase, small pile of books and some decor items. Have your footstool re-upholstered in a more uplifting, patterned fabric, and select a scatter cushion for your armchair to co-ordinate with the fabric on the footstool. Add a cozy throw to your armchair, so you have everything you need for a cool night in, at your fingertips. Enjoy your gorgeous new space....See MoreStudy nook disaster
Comments (22)Remove red shelves and build in a wall of fitted shelving on that left hand wall, extending right in along the side of the desk. I notice the filing cabinets are at either end of the desk - can they be moved to the right hand end so as not to be blocking the storage area you will have created. In fact once you have the extra shelves you may be able to get rid of one of the filing cabinets. Place the printer and extra equipment on the shelves where they cross the end of the desk, and you have all the rest of the wall for dedicated storage for books, files, rubbish bin, containers for EVERYTHING, appropriately labelled, this may help hubby to keep things tidier, eg a container for all the cords and connections, another for USBs, appropriately labeled, Lots of file boxes or other appropriate storage containers on the shelves. Install plenty of electrical sockets, or fit that power board UNDER the desk, out of the way. A charging station would be useful. Stack of fresh paper for the printer, bin for rubbish - having EASY access to EVERYTHING is the answer. And yes, hide all those cables! Wireless gadgets if possible! My desk has a half-depth shelf under it, in front of my knees, which has the printer and spare paper stacked on it. Works just fine, out of the way and accessible....See MoreKitchen design & engineering idea - would you do it like this?
Comments (14)A suggestion. Since you have windows in the study with views, I would utilise those views. I would block up the small arch that is from lounge to study. Open up the large arch, and make a walkway. Put fridge in blocked up arch. Continue kitchen benchtop and cupboards around the entire study area on solid walls. On the window parts continue an open counter. You could have stools here to look at your views, and this could be used for working on a laptop with a wifi connection to a printer camouflaged in cupboards. Or just use it as a wonderful place to sit and directly take in your views. I would also reconfigure your lounge so you are facing the study area when seated.
