Should I update my home to this facade?
Comments (10)That will look beautiful. You asked if it's too much work...which begs the question, WHO will be doing the work? Will you hire a builder, subcontract out the parts, or do the work yourself? That will help answer the question, I think. If you have a firm price contract, the budget for it, and a timeframe you can live with, then sure, why not?...See MoreBrick house, maroon paint - any ideas for updating?
Comments (19)Thankyou all for the comments - definitely a lot to digest! Sounds like I could get away with leaving the roof as is and painting all timber in monument (or darker), except for the balustrades which could be a white or light grey. Perhaps a 'heritage' style sectional garage door in monument as well. I was also considering adding some fretwork to the porch to make it look more proportional - the house previously had this, but it was removed by the last owner. They already have a bit of this inside (picture below) so I was thinking of something similar. I would want to keep it fairly simple since it's a 90's knock-off of a period home and anything too ornate would look a bit silly......See MoreHi, I am chasing some ideas on external colours to paint my house.
Comments (4)I'd ask whether you want to keep it heritage , or go more modern ? Bigreader basically has the 50's vibe covered -- to go more modern I'd go an offwhite with a slight green or even blue tinge on the waeatherboards , then either bright red or a stronger green than the fence , for the trim . I'd get rid of every bit of the brown , and it looks like some grey on the back steps -- I know all about budgets too , so maybe do all the steps and railings in a metallic look charcoal , or if the budget stretches , maybe go more modern on all the steps and railings and all the doors -- there's a difference between painted old , and retro haha -- $2000 or even $4000 spent cleverly now will really add to the overall effect ....See MoreIdeas for updating house front
Comments (7)I assume that is your wooden fence around the property ? Stain it black/charcoal . Everything that is browny/reddish I'd do charcoal , incliding the uprights and beams of the carport . Obviously , the gutters , windowsills etc all that charcoal too . Is that red screen thing over a window ? Again , go charcoal OR replace it with cedar or similar stained horizontal battens , and do the same battens across that downstairs window too . $1000 plus labour , at the most . New look -- priceless haha ....See Moresiriuskey
