It would be good to see more photos as the posted one doesn't show enough

Without knowing what style or colour the Colourbond is , it's pretty hard to make suggestions -- oklouise has shown some stunning looks , I'm trying to think how to do something more on a budget ?

Using JUST your photo ( i.e. assuming it had the wooden fence still ) I would have waterblasted and stained all the wooden fence ( the one that appears unpainted , the white fence on the left , etc ) in charcoal/black . The white gates I'd redo in white , but with one proviso I'll get to soon .

The veranda ( portago ? ) I'd tidy , or replace if too far gone , with new materials . If going new , possibly also stain in charcoal , or a redwood stain , but keep the roof in crisp white .

So to this stage , it's tidy but a bit darker , a bit more modern , but pretty boring . So add colour -- the front door , the garage doors , possibly the upper level gutters and downpipes , and the centre scroll in the gates to the left -- all in a stand-out fire hydrant red or sunshine yellow or citrus orange -- I'm hesitant to use orange , as combined with the brown , it may emphasis the 70's aspect , but if there is a barge board around the garage doors , then citrus orange doors with crisp white surrounds would look smart !

Depending on the veranda , and what work is needed there , then maybe $1000-2000 in materials and paint , and 2 days to a weeks work , and it would look more modern , less boxy , more 'happy' .

Unfortunately the photo is too small to tell details but the brown bricks can look fabulous if surrounded by lots of greenery - gives the house a bit of mystery. Paint your downpipes, meter box and such brown to match the bricks so they disappear and give the house a less cluttered appearance. The portico is a nice touch and very practical so I would replace that if it needs doing, but it would keep it in sync with the age of the house. Pottsy loves his orange, but I would paint the doors a turquoise for a touch of modern colour.

Haha -- I actually said I'd be reluctant to use orange , as I'm not fond of the chocolate brown and orange combo , unless I could add enough crisp white to highlight the difference . Personally , I don't like brown and turqouise either . Maybe I just don't like dark brown haha -- never really thought of that , but I do tend to favour charcoal or black as dark colours ?

I think a warm charcoal looks great with dark brown, what colour is the Colorbond fence?

Just stirring Pottsy, you didn't do too well last time you suggested those colours :) Actually I never liked blues and browns together either but it must be just the different shades these days, I find turquoise and brown can really look good, the right shade of course.

MB Design is right, brown bricks are not only still used but very popular now. I live in the Southern Highlands, home of the 'Bowral Brown Bricks' manufacturer and we have so many new homes being built with these bricks at the moment, in all shades of brown from beige to brown/black. Its hard to see exactly the shade of your bricks in your photo but if you search 'bowral brown bricks' they have some great photos and you will get some awesome ideas for colours, landscaping, etc that work with brown bricks - especially dark grey and off white/cream seem to work the best but it depends on the shade of your brick.

Internal window treatments are very important too as they greatly impact the look of the house from the outside and if you could replace the internal curtains with white plantation shutters it would make such a difference - not only modernising and tidying up the overall appearance but also making the top floor windows stand out a bit more as they look a little lost now - but you would need to have them on all windows though so it looks uniform.
