Rug indecisiveness!

Hello, I need help on what colour and style rug would look good in our office/study. We’ve gone for an eclectic vibe and I’m not a fan of “matchy matchy” schemes. Our feature wall is green/grey and our office chairs are patchwork but have orange, brown and grey within them. I originally bought a terracotta Persian style rug but that didn’t work. Any ideas would be appreciated!

I think this rug works well, unfortunately, i can't find it for sale anywhere at the moment, just web pics, so not a lot of help.............I will keep looking. !!

Comments (25)I envy your wall space, I wish we had more! What has worked really well for us is using empty walls as our "brag" board. Do you have particular interests you love talking about? Putting something up about your family, a favourite subject, pet or holiday could be a great talking point. Our visitors get drawn to our fishing photos, where we caught the fish (Botswana/Amazon) and the type (Tiger fish/Peacock Bass). Although the photo print (size A0) could be printed really cheaply (~$50) at somewhere like Officeworks, I discovered that the frames (~$440 each) were the biggest expense. However, as we know we only needed to print a new A0 sized photo in the future, spending money on good, customised frames is worthwhile. We have also now tried printing our favourite shots on stretched canvas (~$100). The product gets delivered, usually in a week, ready for hanging much quicker than ordering a custom made frame ;) Smaller canvases range from twenty dollars to about a hundred. Comments (22)Hmmm I do understand your indecision. So if it were me I would lean toward caution and choose a tabletop which blends with your existing colour scheme. It's always difficult to tell from a photo the hues in someone else's home. It does appear your kitchen tiles are a cream colour, and possibly your sofa is a warm white. Is that correct? If so, I would look for a marble with warm tones. If you like black as the main colour, is there one with beige or warm white or brown tones in it? Comments (38)Floss, there’s nothing wrong with your floor. Be confident it was not a bad decision. Hamptons style will look fantastic in your lovely, character filled home. But sorting your likes and dislikes into what’s consistent with the theme, and what’s not, will help minimise potential mismatches or poor choices. It will also help sort out whether your taste actually aligns more with Hamptons or a more modern style (like your pivot front door, for instance). If it leans to more modern, you may have to compromise on a look that will suit not fight with the architectural style of your home. Then, as others have said, take an overall and consistent approach. Otherwise you risk making changes in one room that wont be fit for purpose when you move on to the next room. Comments (27)Hi, paint cabinets white, off white, deep navy blue, greige or moderately dark grey. two tone would also look ok - light/white on top, darker on bottom. Maybe choose paint based on other colours used in house. Please do not paint sage!!!! replace the cabinet handles with modern chrome T handles or similar. Replace curtain with white venetian. paint/cover brick. get rid of brick next to stove and replace with a panel. tile paint tiles white and extend to behind stove. or get creative and add a nice geometric feature tile that compliments the colours behine stove and exhaust fan. put down some cheap water proof wood look laminate click flooring. consider adding same geometric print to breakfast bar and add a couple of cute high stools from kmart or ebay. Change fan to chrome or spray paint silver. replace beam light with pendant light, maybe glass to be safe or something that is modern, meracrtor is good brand, or even just a modern round oyster type light. I think if you love Persian type rugs, you could go for a ‘distressed over-dyed medallion rug’ Maybe in beige or a light blue/grey.

5 years agoA question about the mirror... my husband and I are in a disagreement. I feel the mirror should be screwed to the wall but sat on the mantelpiece as per the image here. My husband thinks it would look best hung in the centre of the space above the mantle or leaning on the mantle. Please settle this for us!
