Marble does require a little love and maintenance - namely a good quality sealer when its installed and then ideally a seal each year (which some clients do, some clients don't). A little care needs to be taken to not stain or cut the marble, however it rewards with a beauitful character and liveliness and takes on the personality of the owners/ its use over time (particularly clients who love to cook!). This is not for everyone, and some people prefer a more predictable surface over time. However the marble's natural beauty and character is why we love specifying and using it. I think it's summed up pretty perfectly in this article by Rebecca Judd; http://www.rebeccajuddloves.com/2014/01/21/ask-bec-calacatta-marble-on-benchtops/
