I have just chosen my kitchen and family room colours and decided to stick to white floors, cabinetry, green glass painted white splashback which gives a lovely soft green colour and shitake ceaserstone benchtops. Once this is installed I will bring in colour with vases and accessories. Main concern is any colour you bring in will date quickly and you will get tired of it. if you keep it simple you can dress it up. It is a huge decision so chose carefully, your kitchen specialist is always a good guide, listen to their suggestions. Good luck.

@oklouise The fridge is the big "X" next to the sink above the laundry label. I have thought about trying to use an old IKEA Expedit 2x4 shelf I have (it measures 770mm x 390mm x 147mm, so a little lower and longer but not too much) and adding some metal legs from Bunnings to get to the working height (the legs come in 100mm so would bring the height up to 870mm) and leaving 10mm for the actual benchtop. I saw another IKEA hack where instead of getting a benchtop, they used a bunch of IKEA LAMPLIG chopping boards (460mm x 560mm x 18mm). I'm not entirely sure that will fit as it might be too big, but you've given me some food for thought! (a research trip to IKEA might be in store for the weekend) @meme My previous set up was kind of like this. I had a large square "island" (looks like the IKEA BEKVAM one, but bigger) and next to it I kept another IKEA RASKOG trolley full of cooking supplies (salt, pepper, oil, vinegar, etc). I still have the small trolley but I had to get rid of the island because it had open storage and my baby is now crawling/cruising around getting into everything! The IKEA FORHOJA has the right dimensions but still the same problem of open storage...

Hi, your Waterfall End will certainly add to the Modernist Style you are wanting. From your drawings; so too would extending your tall overheads up the ceiling and finishing these with a thin 19mm shaddow mould, as opposed to the bulkhead that is drawn in at the moment. The photos below have one that we have made with a natural black shaddow mould and the other we made for our clients using a white shaddow mould. With your colour scheme you indicate, you actually have infinite options of colour and material type available to you for splashbacks, ranging from tiles, Glass, sheet porcelain, metals, or stone. Mirror can work well, you may also like to consider a Smoked Glass Mirror, giving the reflective qualities you mention while also being a little darker than silver mirror and so having a less "shinny" feel as in photo at the bottom. I think the layout is a great use of the space. It flows, there's room to move and everything is accessible. Think about replacing the cupboard next to the dishwasher with drawers. Drawers give a lot more usable storage area that is easily accessible. You could put in a blind corner cupboard as well (Bunnings have them). Pull out bins under the sink eliminate the need to have a bin in a corner somewhere (Bunnings have those too). Some open shelving on the wall to the right of the sink near the arch would be handy and would look lovely. It doesn't need to cost a fortune either. Don't be scared to get quotes. We've just recently had 15 quotes for the kitchen we're renovating and the price varied by $15K. Totally worth the run around to get extra quotes. We also picked up some great tips and advice along the way. We are paying a builder who does renovations and extensions to do it for us. He can get things so much cheaper at trade price than we could. He is also managing the tiler and painter as he uses guys that work with him all the time. We have decided to get a flat packed kitchen that is pre-cut. The builder is putting it together and making the timber counter tops for us at less than half the price of the kitchen places. We chose the tiles and he ordered them at a better price. Same for the sink, taps, handles etc. We have saved thousands of dollars doing it this way and he manages the entire thing for us. Added: I rang the builder. He said that if your budget is really tight, consider getting a Kaboodle kitchen and have a builder install it for you. He recommended not to order the Kaboodle hardware (hinges, drawer runners etc) as it's not the best quality and a builder can order others. The handles would be fine though. It would make it way cheaper for you and you would still get a decent quality kitchen.
