Hi meusm, and thanks everyone for the comments. The open shower is a dream to use, there is so much space it feels like showering outdoors. The shower screen in 90cm wide. I was always worried about the splash, but its not a problem at all. A small amount of water does get out (I estimate 1/2 a cup), but we have a bath mat. If the screen was 1m I think there would be almost none (although this obviously depends on your shower head, water pressure and fall of the shower - make sure you get the fall in the floor right!). Because it is all open it dries very quickly. The pocket door is a cavity slider, which slides between the wall behind the towel rails. The sliding door was essential in such a tight space. All the best with your reno!

There is only the 2 of us so we both use the ensuite. The shelf is not wide enough for towels and not sure where to buy nice soaps. Visitors will use it for toilet and washing hands but the shower wouldn't get used unless someone was staying over and then I can take out whatever is there.

Thank you so much everyone for all the fantastic ideas. I'm glad I posted here. Your pictures all look amazing too. I never considered a mirrored cabinet at first - I didn't think they looked as sophisticated! But the drawers just don't provide enough storage and I think I will go with that - it will satisfy my desire for a large mirror too! I love the "round the corner" idea for getting a good view of my hair dos! Thanks again everyone :-)

The style of that bathroom is definitely not 'old style': it is quite modern. Although not strictly 1960s style, to me there are some 'echoes' of 1960s in the clean lines of the timber vanity: reminds me of mid century furniture. I don't think you need to stick with pure and authentic 1960s design in most 1960s chamferboard houses. They have simple lines, and I think can handle modern, up to date bathrooms. And generally bathrooms are where people expect a bit more 'modern', even in older style homes.
