The other showers throughout we are just keeping the same tile with the niche so wanted to change this one up seeing as it's a big niche and make more of a feature of it. Am thinking a herringbone type tile or even small hexagons but it's more colour that I'm not sure about. A lot of those tiles are marble like colour The style of home is contemporary/Scandic if that's even a style ha ha!

When our building company architect had drawn up the plans and we'd gone on to the next stage of "add-ons", we requested a niche in the tiled shower area for shampoos etc, but were told it can't be done due to water-tight issues. Then, during the walk-through before signing off, we mentioned this to the building supervisor, and he was surprised about our request of a shelf being declined, and said that we should've asked them before they tiled. But, since we'd already made quite a few changes to the standard plan, we didn't want to cause any aggro. Now we have one of those metal extendable corner shelves. So, it pays to get a second opinion.

(black wire?) shelf on the empty wall will will hold more, drain better and be cleaner than soap build up in the niche ...btw is there enough space to have the toilet next to the vanity and have the shower wall to wall with the taps on the end wall and niche or shelves in place of the "white box"?

The first photo from Kate is the only one that has the design I'm looking for. Except in my case the wall and the back of the niche would be the same tile, only the niche's edges would be different. Dr Retro - The reason for doing this is we are using large format glass tile with a pattern in it. We have to cut the glass for the inside edge and you'll be able to look "into" the glass edge and it may not be the best outcome. So the idea is to put porcelain tile on the inside edge (like Kate's first photo) to eliminate that as an issue. The tile's pattern comes from a thin film applied to the back of the glass. Even if the glass is cut perfectly, that film will probably be lightly fragmented. If the glass were a solid color we could paint the edge (did this in a different bathroom) but that won't work in this case. So the easy solution is to use a porcelain tile for the edge of the niche. People often use a completely different tile for the entire back of the niche. Here I'm only changing the tile on the edge so I don't think it's a huge deal. Kate's first example looks fine but I'd like to see a few more like this if anyone has examples.
