One large paved area is fine, it will just be more costly. If the stepping stones are installed slightly lower than the grass you can mow over them, but it is up to you which option you go with.

You are spot on. My problem was mowing :-) Ok now that you have clarified my doubt, we shall consider both options: fully paved and stepping stone. If we have it fully paved we could use the whole area is what we are thinking now :-)
