Thanks for that link Lee. Not sure how I will go getting tile out - I was rather hoping for some kind of 'elbow' profile that I could silicone over the top and create a neat frame. I would if I could grind a channel where the tiles meet and retro-fit that metal trim? 'Me me' and 'Gallifrey' have metal edge too - I did not know that was an option. I certainly would have suggested that. Note to oneself - research before you get in a mess - not afterwards!

We have midtone engineered timber floors throughout and I love them. We are not precious about the floor and it does get wet from spills and drips in the kitchen but after 10 years it still looks great. Ive not lived with polished concrete but just spent 2 weeks in an AirBnb with them. I ended up using all their yoga mats as support in the kitchen as it was cold to stand on (winter) and really hard on the legs.

I wouldn't use putty though. Spac filler perhaps? But honestly, it would take a huge amount of work. If you paint the walls a mid range colour (darker colours hide sins), or at least a fresh coat of paint, add your furniture and style nicely, the rooms would look lovely and those wretched cover strips would become much less noticeable. Why not try living with them for a while and see if you still feel the same?

Hi squirrel30. I ended up, on a professional's advice, having the whole bathroom stripped and redone. It actually worked out cheaper than any of the seemingly more innovative solutions. It seemed a shame to discard a lot of stuff that was in good order, but to get the result we wanted it proved the best approach and I'm delighted with the result. We had the floor pulled up and replaced with 600 x 600 textured grey tiles and 900 wide tiles in the shower with a grate at the end so in a very, very large shower we have only 3 grout lines and they are dark grey. We used slab tiles on the walls in the shower with dark grey grouting and 600 x 600 tiles elsewhere. Again resulting in very few grout lines, and no glass at all! I'm still interested to know more about microcement but I can't get anyone to answer inquiries. I've responded to a dozen or so ads but nobody has ever bothered to contact me. Not sure I would trust a supplier who is that disinterested in potential customers!!
