Comments (14)The low ceilings are a limiting factor for choosing colour in this home as you don't want to lower them any further. If handy, raising (or light coffering) the ceiling or part of it doesn't have to be expensive and will add some height, spaciousness and interest plus broaden your colour options significantly. Houzz has some interesting pictures. The wallpaper may have been chosen with vertical patterns to give extra height to the rooms, so dark tones on the walls may have the effect of closing the room even more. Recessed lighting can also help. The carpet looks to be in reasonably good condition so having it re-stretched may eliminate the cost to replace it short-term plus keep the house warmer for winter. When you do, check the condition of the boards to see whether polished wooden floors could be an option. I always suggest living in a place for a year before making major alterations... you'll then have insight into how the house will work for you in terms of light, heat and cooling as well as preferred outlook and high traffic/wear areas. Good luck!...See MoreLounge room decor advice needed.
Comments (22)I would paint your bookshelf the same colour as the walls and stuff it with, well, books! I would paint the built-in corner unit to match and just use it for potplants - ivy that hangs down would look good. As for the coffee table, if the room is small, what I did in our little family room was hunted around and found a large curved hunk of tempered glass from Freedom and it sort of 'floats' and looks invisible in some lights. Seriously, I think the line was called Ghost and was very reasonable (they also had a side table to match). Throw a bit of cherry red around and see how it looks with the creams and the taupes. Here is a pic of the coffee table....See MoreRevamp but keep furniture
Comments (12)As mentioned, possibly a darker pink or even a sage green for the rug. Here are a few ideas, including a mix of contemporary and traditional, which might work: [https://www.houzz.com.au/photos/cambridge-residence-traditional-living-room-boston-phvw-vp~118386[(https://www.houzz.com.au/photos/cambridge-residence-traditional-living-room-boston-phvw-vp~118386) [https://www.houzz.com.au/photos/coastal-vacation-home-beach-style-living-room-philadelphia-phvw-vp~316467[(https://www.houzz.com.au/photos/coastal-vacation-home-beach-style-living-room-philadelphia-phvw-vp~316467) [https://www.houzz.com.au/photos/every-day-chic-transitional-living-room-raleigh-phvw-vp~5996763[(https://www.houzz.com.au/photos/every-day-chic-transitional-living-room-raleigh-phvw-vp~5996763) [https://www.houzz.com.au/photos/breakers-beach-house-beach-style-bedroom-san-francisco-phvw-vp~355987[(https://www.houzz.com.au/photos/breakers-beach-house-beach-style-bedroom-san-francisco-phvw-vp~355987) [https://www.houzz.com.au/photos/master-bedroom-contemporary-bedroom-new-york-phvw-vp~66459[(https://www.houzz.com.au/photos/master-bedroom-contemporary-bedroom-new-york-phvw-vp~66459) [https://www.houzz.com.au/photos/country-house-drawing-room-traditional-living-room-london-phvw-vp~11440596[(https://www.houzz.com.au/photos/country-house-drawing-room-traditional-living-room-london-phvw-vp~11440596) [https://www.houzz.com.au/photos/model-home-living-room-transitional-living-room-santa-barbara-phvw-vp~530813[(https://www.houzz.com.au/photos/model-home-living-room-transitional-living-room-santa-barbara-phvw-vp~530813) [https://www.houzz.com.au/photos/victorian-living-room-victorian-living-room-richmond-phvw-vp~655185[(https://www.houzz.com.au/photos/victorian-living-room-victorian-living-room-richmond-phvw-vp~655185) [https://www.houzz.com.au/photos/traditional-living-room-victorian-living-room-philadelphia-phvw-vp~7015800[(https://www.houzz.com.au/photos/traditional-living-room-victorian-living-room-philadelphia-phvw-vp~7015800) I would try to buy from a store which will let you take the rug home, see if it works with your décor and return it if it doesn't look right....See MoreHow should I style my entry table?
Comments (49)Personally if I were to put a runner down the area I'd keep it either plain or a very soft muted colour palate maybe with the grey and natural colours as right now it looks quite classy so you don't want to make it to bold or in your face just soft and calming for the area to enhance it all as one look. I don't really think you need one at all as I love the softness of the area as a whole as it is, sometimes less is more but it once again comes down to personal taste....See Morejulie herbert
