Help, I’m surrounded by primrose window frames and doors frames!

I am purchasing a home which has primrose window frames and door frames. I really am not a fan of cream colour schemes. It is obviously too expensive to replace these frames, but I would love to paint my interiors white. I would like to draw as much attention away from the primrose and cream colours as I can. The floor is a fairly neutral tile, which draws the colour from whatever colour it is surrounded by.

The home is in a coastal location and looks out through the sliding doors on to a waterway.

This is the real estate photo with the previous owners furniture. I will be removing the double glass French doors and wall which will open this area up to the dining area and kitchen. The dining area and kitchen is behind the doors.

I will also be replacing the blinds, kitchen cupboard doors, splash back and replacing the odd shaped island.

At the moment everything appears to be a sea of yellow.

For the time being I will have to live with the tiles, but in the future I plan to lay floating floorboards over the top.

Any advice is much appreciated.

It is always really exciting to embark on a new project such as yours!

Removing the wall to make your living area open plan over the waterway makes a lot of sense. Is it possible to then open the kitchen view to the waterway as well by having a long countertop with storage below?

I would then paint out the whole area in a warm white and bring colour in with a large area rug defining living area seating space.

Large artwork will also give your home the character you look for.

When choosing your pure white wall colour, it is a good 'rule of thumb' to add a tint of your largest piece of furniture, in this picture being cornflower blue.

Hi Macca5 - I’m just starting to look at options for updating to get rid of the primrose door and window frames. Was just curious if you proceeded with your updates and what process you went with?

Yes I was asking another question, given the light on the property , would white frames be too glary/stark? Also there are different types of rendering- the acrylic and the painted on ,anyone know how much more expensive the acrylic might be?

Daniel Lindahl - I didn't say to get rid of it - I just said to change it for something else - I have a 70's home owner built - cavity brick - Daniel sometimes it is working with what you have in order to keep costs down - paintings - if you have several - can be changed around your home for a interesting look - as our homes are our homes - the paintings - can always be shared in various rooms/walls to suit ones mood.

I don’t know whether you have done your painting or not but with your dark furniture and existing windows I would paint walls light warm grey and 150% strength same grey colour on the architrave .something different and grey , yellow and brown look good together.

Thank you for all your help, I was thinking of painting the balcony supports to bring in the white again but my husband said he does not really want to paint them as we will have to paint down the track again and keep it up. They are double gav. Do you mean paint the grey around the balcony base to the white swan? So instead of having dark grey gutters and balcony dark grey have dark grey gutters and white swan around balcony? I could not find Tranquil Retreat on the paint visualiser so I used Gray Frost which looks on the internet a similar colour so I could get the idea what it may look like. Any thoughts on below colours? It is funny a lot of people say the Tranquil retreat does not look pale blue but on the Motel it does look pale blue as can be seen on the above real photos.

Hi Adele, I decided to roll with them and work the colours around them to draw attention away from the primrose. I’m so happy with the result. We painted the walls Dulux natural white and added new roller blinds in all areas with a view. We installed white shutters on all side windows of the house as they have no view. The shutters of course completely hide the primrose. The dulux natural white paint gave us the beautiful white look we wanted whilst also being a warm enough colour not to clash or highlight the yellow tint of the primrose. We installed a white kitchen and white shutter in the kitchen(no view on this side) We installed new flooring, it has a slight warmth without being yellow. Quantum 5mm Vinyl plank longboard colour Malmo (Choices Flooring) We don’t even notice the primrose anymore. I will attach some photos

Hi Sharon, I’d love to see some pics of the floor and considering a vinyl myself and coming from real floorboards are struggling to get my head around the vinyl. Thx BR

I understand your reservations, my last home had floorboards. But I love them! In this house we laid the vinyl planks over tiles.
