Help me pick a light fixture for my living room! Please!
Comments (12)I would be inclined to go with an unobtrusive light since it's the living room and anything too dramatic or a hanging pendant may interfere with your peripheral vision (or otherwise be an annoyance) when you're watching TV, etc. Also, being so near the sliding door, the wind may cause a hanging pendant to swing quite a bit which will cause the lighting to be constantly shifting and changing which I would personally find annoying. I'd go with something simple and subtle, but look at getting a tall standing lamp for the corner near the sofa (or possibly at the other end of the floating TV cabinet). In terms of warming up the apartment, I think you need something on the bare walls. A smaller picture above the floating TV cabinet will help to take the focus off your TV. A larger art work behind the sofa will also help to add some colour and personality, especially if it picks up some hues from your sofa. If you don't like the little Buddha statue, I would look at adding one or two other items that you do like (perhaps picking up colours from the wall art) and making a little vignette. A couple of colourful cushions and a storage solution for the wires, games console, etc on the floor would also help to bring everything together. Something as simple as a woven basket under the floating TV cabinet might help to keep the games console, etc in place unless it is in use....See MoreWould you DIY hang venetians & roller blinds?
Comments (32)Hi Sarah DIY can be a great option to stay within your budget and find an agreeable solution to your current dilemma. Window furnishings are generally one of the last jobs required after going through the process of building your house, which means the budget is always tight at this point after all the other 'extra expenses' Therefore you are now potentially starting to look at compromising on the quality that you originally wanted to finish your off your house. Window furnishing can have a fairly visual impact, as well as influencing how the room 'feels', on both the inside and outside of you rooms and home. In the first instance we need to define the difference between a DIY 'Ready Made / Ready to Hang Product' which is what you would purchase from somewhere such as Spotlight vs DIY "Custom Made" products. The difference in quality is significant, however the price points don't have to be. At iseekblinds, we offer genuine custom made blinds, made in Australia. If you visit our website, you can get an instant price online - It would be interesting to see the difference between what you have been quoted and what we can offer. We can turn Roller Blinds around within 3 weeks or sooner if requested and deliver nationally. Everything you need to know regarding measure and installation is on our website and we teach and guide you through the process to ensure you get it right. Please see some of our reviews to hear how our other customers have been surprised at just how easy the installation process has been and are over the moon in regards to the product quality they received. Get Your DIY On! I say. And please don't hesitate to contact me if I can be of any further assistance Cheers, Sally...See MoreNeed help with builder deviating from contract without consultation
Comments (16)Hi Azzopardi As previously stated, it's all about your contract.... and the events subsequent. Firstly, I would suggest you post an example ie the details of an item that is being changed that you are unhappy about the most, including the original item specified and the item that is now being installed, together with the background on how that change came about. We can then perhaps give you some advice on that. Also, what type of contract is it? Is it a fixed price / design and construct / cost plus? Thirdly, I suggest you start reading your contract. In it you will find a couple of items you need to look for specifically... They are; 1. Variations - there is a set process whereby any changes to the contract need to follow a methodology. The builder needs some form of approval from you to make changes and it is detailed in this part of the contract. Equally, if you have made changes to the works you have asked your builder to perform then you need to follow the process ie in writing. Have you been having site meetings / progress discussions with your builder? 2. Disputes - there are often disagreements during the building process particularly where one persons recollection of events are different to others. That is why it pays to do everything in writing. That said, there is a mechanism in the contract telling you what to do and how to resolve a dispute with your builder including the use of an independent arbitrator etc. If you follow the steps and put it in writing you will soon find out why the changes are made. Cheers...See MoreWhat should I hang above a 4.8m-long sofa?
Comments (25)Thank you everyone for your great comments. There were design ideas I had never thought of and really valued like the floating shelf, a mural and larger cushions and changing the colour of the lamp shade. Attached is the latest room version. I have moved paintings around. I do love this aboriginal painting, I am not sure if it is a little small but I'd really like it above the couch so perhaps another complimentary painting beside it? Or do you think it works ok? I think I can pretty much choose any colour from the painting for cushions and to brighten up the space - was thinking brighter and larger like suggested above by littlethommo2 and littlethommo2 . I still think I have balance/scale to work on - thank you Paul Di Stefano Design and littlethommo2 . I can move the cupboard at the end of the couch with the plant on it and place something taller here ? Any further ideas are really appreciated. Thank you all !...See MoreRykki Kriner
