The vivid white looks neat and smart but will reflect a lot of glare on summer afternoons. I would not change it as it will help reflect the heat. Houses of this style and period often introduced more colour by painting the eaves, usually a pastel colour. For your home I would suggest either a very light blue, teal or a pale terracotta pink, which was commonly used.

For your landscaping it is impossible to advise as it depends on your climate and exposure to wind and salt. If you are in Tasmania your plants would be very different than if you were in Queensland. Have a look to see what thrives in your immediate neighbourhood, or engage a local landscape design professional who understands your climate and soil conditions.
