Help on paint decision...

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><md>I have recently put up this wallpaper. I had in mind to paint the other 3 walls the background colour of the wallpaper. The wallpaper is technically "navy" but after trying to match to a navy, it is more of a dark grey/charcoal. However I am unsure of whether I want the whole room in this colour or if you make it too dark and small feeling. I am currently testing out the two colours you can see on the wall.
Any ideas appreciated

I would paint the internal window shutters the same colour as the background of the wallpaper as it really sticks out and doesn't work with the wallpaper. The remaining three walls in a gold or tan to match the picture frame images in the wallpaper. The colours that you have selected are too dark. What is the function of the room?

I think those colours are too dark. I am wondering what it would look like if you matched the blue in the wallpaper?

I agree with Amy, maintaining a similar finish on the chairs will draw your eye to other accents in the room. Although, instead of charcoal I'd consider going with a lighter fabric similar to this @RestorationHardware chair http://www.restorationhardware.com/catalog/product/product.jsp?productId=prod1633005&categoryId=cat1677014. I love the nailhead detail! Then you can use a gorgeous chandelier as your focal point or subtle wall sconces with recessed cans on a dimmer switch for the occasional mood lighting.

Hi Sarah, I guess it depends also on the style of your house. Epoxy coatings can look great in a contemporary addition, but may look a bit odd in a more "traditional-style" home. An advantage with epoxy coatings are often cost per m2, but you need to have a pretty level floor to avoid noticing imperfections. Finishing screeds can be pricey if you need to apply them first. Another advantage with epoxy is that there are plenty of colours and finishes to choose from. Best of luck with it all.

I had a lot of Tile Photos and shapes on my old Computer XP But the new one is Apple and I was Wondering why I couldn't Find Things that should have been there..The best ones are those that fit together as a complete Panel. It is True that it is not easy to Make The Shapes yourself...I did a tile Course a few years ago....You can Roll the Clay out and then print out the shape you require. (You need to spend time making or getting a Metal Worker to Make several Shapes in Steel...It is like Pastry Cutting ..Probably would take too long...You are right that some Clays are Easier to Work with...There is a type of Terracotta that is very forgiving...But a lot of the white or beige clays will crack very easily and are too fussy.. You have to leave things to dry out slowly over about 4 weeks ...The Kiln needs to be heated up very slowly any rushing and crafts will happen . I still have my old Computer so I hope to get Photo's unto a clip so that I can move them to iPhoto...Good luck with your Project....

The room is actually my own bedroom in our family home... painting the shutters is not an option unfortunately - this may not be a permanent theme in the room.
Great ideas re the tan or gold, however I am skeptical about this due to the furniture in the room. This is the bed (ignore the red tones, this is not part of the current theme - I am keeping the mustard quilt cover though)

Reading this post, I am thinking a blue still. Perhaps not as deep as in the wallpaper but still reasonably strong. Blue would work well with your mustrad linen and reddish toned timber.

Personally I wouldn’t paint any of the other walls dark. Should only be one feature wall.
I would paint the rest of the walls in Dulux China white.
It is a colour that goes well with dark walls, more of a grey white.
I have used it with a dark blue wall and a charcoal wall.
Also rather than testing all your colours on the walls, I just grab sample pots and paint large pieces of cardboard. Easier to move around and no need to paint out on the walls.

The wall paper is very detailed and if you painted the walls a dark colour (and your keeping the dark bed?) it is going to be a very very dark, heavy room and quite overpowering. Your carpet goes well with the medium-tone mustard colours in the wallpaper so personally I would pick out one of these lighter mustard colours for the walls as well to soften the room, but not white - white would be too much of a stark contrast to the wallpaper. The mustard would add warmth and also be a beautiful background to the stunning bed you have which is a feature in itself. To balance the colours in the room you could consider adding some small throw cushions / throw rug, or possibly a small floor rug, that matches the dark background colour in the wallpaper. Have you considered what you will put on the other walls? Try ebay or vintage shops for a mirror/s that have a similar frame to the ones in your wallpaper.

Thanks guys. I will certainly consider the blue or mustard for the walls. Do you think i should try and match the exact shade of my quilt cover?!
I already have this mirror on the opposite wall to the wallpaper.
I have just purchased some tan cushions and a charcoal throw.
Thank you for the tip re paint samples - that is actually what I have done in the picture, painted on two pieces of card and blue tacked to the wall.

Yes the bed will stay - it is one of my prized possesions :-) ...and I want to make much of it, and not drown out the bed with other colours and features

What about a shade of olive green. Would blend in with both wallpaper and your wonderful bed.

No I wouldnt try and match the paint with your bed cover, it may not be the right tone to work with the wallpaper. Pick a tone the same as in the wallpaper and you really cant go wrong.

Thank you Houzz community! I have completed painting my room. the second picture has the truest colour of blue - it's not as dark as the last photo shows. Any ideas on throw and lamps are appreciated. I didn't end up going with the charcoal throw.

Are they the same lamps? With them lit up against the wall colour, they look different somehow.
