Exterior Render Colour
Comments (11)Thank you for your comments, I do agreed with your comments of considering not rendering as we don't dislike the brick, we just thought rendering would bring it up to a more modern feel. We have an established tropical garden already....so would play on that with the timber and see what we think. Currently, the roof is manor red, but liking the Ironstone better than the current. Comments (13)Scallopini is similar to Dune? The dutch gable's (triangle's) would be better in Shale Grey as would Facia and gutters. Monument gutter ok but could be a bit much. Monument to roof and garage door. Monument to window frames as well rather than black? Depends on builder window company. Scallopini to walls. That way really just 3 colours....See MoreNeed some ideas on modernising our 70’s brick house
Comments (5)I guess it depends on your budget . I'd tend to initially keep it 'simple' , and do the retaining posts in charcoal , or even a silvery grey . The trim I initially thought charcoal too , but your windows look like they may be white frames , or aluminium , so in that case stick with the white theme too , although the existing garage door/gates in mostly white is then too much white IMO , but you want to change that anyway . Because of the shape , the door is going to be custom -- I'd do a cedar panel type door , or possibly a single piece tilt door may close flush , but I suspect it won't . So clean lines , a clean look to the house , with a darker contrast in the retaining wall . If that doesn't look right , and/or you have a bigger budget , then a new retaining wall in concrete or blocks , with an off-white render , will look classy , but its mixing up eras and styles a bit too much for my liking -- next thing you'll want to square off the garage and all thge windows , and render the whole house . That would work , cost a lot , and look good -- but why ? Apart from the yellow , theres not too much wrong , so embrace it !...See MoreUpdating a dated facade- advice needed
Comments (10)Thanks Kate. I like what you've done to break up some of that ugly cream and and to get some contrast happening. The height on the tree is another interesting way to screen out the window. I wonder if some other lust modern plantings might work the same way (just sans the screens?) Bringing several elements with the same colour in also sounds like a great plan. Do you think charcoal or black would work as well as blue? I like the front door idea Rosemary. When I visit next I might have a measure and think about what size might work. I had wanted to keep the screen door, but I'm guessing Id have to rethink that, as I think it would swing out and hit the post at the door. The roof is not at all clean, its actually a pretty dirty colour, which is why we're thinking a pressure spray might be a good idea, especially given that the roof needs to be repointed in places. The landscapers sounds like a good idea if we have the budget for it. Potsy, I definitely get what you're saying. I agree that there is no saving that cream coloured roof. At some stage we'd love to get it painted, but at the moment we have the bulk of our money being spent inside. I also like the idea of the grasses and flaxes/ modern planting (as bigreader also suggested) I like the idea of painting the windows, but wonder if the job lasts? Ive seen a few jobs that look terrible after a few years as the colour fades or chips away. Do you have any experience with that? We may throw more $$$ at it depending on how long we end up living there. Julie, I think Im also the fan of a lush plant up too! I will have a think about it. Thanks for all of your ideas guys!...See More- 5 years ago
