Can I fit an Ensuite Bathroom in my Bedroom?
Comments (11)I think you can definitely do this, provided you can move your door which you said you can. I have an ensuite at the side of my main bedroom - it's small but perfectly adequate. I measured it and including all external walls the ensuite takes up 1.4 x 3.05m space (my bedroom including the ensuite is 4.7m long so shorter than yours.). My room is wider (3.9m) so I can have a wardrobe along the wall where your door is and the bed on the opposite wall. But for you, I'd keep your bed where it is and look at putting your bed in a 'wardrobe wall'. you have the depth (1000mm) before the window starts and I think 3.3 m is wide enough ... ~800mm robe either side of bed. See pics below for what I mean. Only you will know if this is too squeezy but an ensuite can make so much difference to your lifestyle, I think it could be worth it!...See Morechanging layout and adding a en-suite
Comments (4)it should be easy enough to use bed 2 as space for an ensuite but that means losing a bedroom...do you have any other long term plans to add extra bedrooms, new kitchen etc eg the old extension seems like a much better location for the kitchen, make a bigger dining area and maybe add a screened room across the back to take advantage of your good climate but neither idea solves the problem of the missing bedroom, could the living area be converted to extra bedrooms but how you would access the clothesline from a laundry in the garage...is there space to add an external door on either side of downstairs? maybe the cellar would be a better location for the new laundry with closer access to the stairs and an existing external (front) door and add laundry shute from the upstairs bathroom but making scaled plans is difficult as the real estate plans are inconsistent ...please confirm the dimensions of all the rooms (including bath, toilet, biws and hallways and i can make a better scaled plan to share...See MoreEn-suite or not in main bedroom ?
Comments (55)I think you should explore the idea of getting a Pod on the deck. its like a mini granny flat / cabana with toilet and small multi purpose room. You might have the space for this. Your layout looks fine as it is, and if you have a covered pergola, a second toilet in a pod will works well there. I am a bit against adding plumbing and moving walls to your house. First its a mess. lots of putting pipes under the flooring, fixing the flooring again, also ceiling and conrice works, and you end up with smaller bed, tighter layout. Too much sacrifice and not too much to gain....See MoreMaster bedroom/ensuite/WIR floor plan help!
Comments (14)One question i have with your design Oklouise is whether the sloped ceiling will look odd in bed 2? The house is an old queenslander and bed 2 was originally the lounge room, with two sets of french doors opening on to an enclosed veranda. We are opening up the front veranda but not the side one (because that would limit the floor space we have available to build in downstairs). The "reading/playroom" was kept separate to the bedroom because that space has a steep sloped ceiling and a set of french doors opening on to it so we thought it looked like a separate space. If we remove the french doors and knock down the wall, do you think the bedroom will feel strange? We would like to keep the set of french doors opening on to the verandah at the front of the room....See Moresiriuskey
