Would you change the wall colour 'me me'? If you would, what colour would you choose? :-)

Your prints are beautiful and have lovely bright colours, but right now all the colour is just in the one spot and it needs to be echoed in other areas of the room so the prints dont look out of place. Also the sheets on the sofa underneath the prints is cream but the other end of the room is all heavy dark grey furnishings so it looks a bit unbalanced. I would select the most dominant colour in the prints (the blue) and replicate this colour on a couple of cushions placed on the single seater and sofa on the opposite side of the room, only a couple of cushions though as you still want the prints to be the main focal point. A cream throw rug on the opposite sofa would also help balance the room. A small lamp on the table under the window with a base in the same blue would also be another way to replicate the colour.

I agree, it's all too busy... busy art work, textured wall... it's all a bit much. Really appreciate the feedback... I've now decided take back the art work and will be on the look out for something more 'natural'. Dr Retro, thank you. Know that we will be removing the window air con which is redundant. Perhaps a down light or pendant will balance the air-con existing in the wall... Will take note regarding cushions and throw rugs and relocating the black frames. If I were to have one main coffee table, what shape would you suggest?

If you are keeping the rug I would suggest round table - the round rug needs a friend!

Thanks Julie, appreciate your feedback and have had decided as you suggested, to go more neutral / natural themed... including the artwork. If you know where I can purchase more natural toned prints, I'd be much appreciated. Know that all is not lost as I'll be keeping one of the artworks shown above and will place it in an office. This certainly has been a good experience in learning more about 'what feels right for me', and also the importance of where things are placed. Dr Retro was right in that it was all too visually busy and Littlethommo was right about needing to pull in colours from across the room in replication of colours seen in cushions etc. Thank you all! x

Put my 'temp' art work back up until I find something else more neutral (and with natural vibes) and have moved some cushions for now.

I’m glad you have reached a decision you are happy with. Even still, I really like your friend’s Artworks. They are unusual, original and bring beautiful colour into the room. However, I think they would look even better in black frames.

The other elements I thought could be changed are to remove the black-framed pieces and replace them with ONE of the three large pieces, then respace/rehang the remaining two (behind the sofa) so They aren’t spaced quite as close together.

I like the timber cabinet, but also wondered if it could be painted, unless it’s antique or an heirloom. I’m thinking royal blue or similar. And remove the boxes from on top of it as they are adding too much height to an already tall piece.

Agree with you about finding a slip cover or change the sheets covering sofa to ones not so pale. Although you probably don’t want dog hair showing either. I love the other suggestions of changing out some or all of the cushions. Vary sizes, tones and textures. Absolutely love Julie’s pic of the striped (esp the mustard) with tassels.

If you want to change rug, I’d go with a larger one, rectangular, in a more neutral tone.

Agree about having different coffee and side tables.

Is is there another wall in this room you can place the cabinet against, and have it still be functional? It looks like it’s a bar cabinet?

I love the 3 large artworks that you already had. They lift the room. I agree about echoing the colour in the artwork in accessories around the room. I also would be trying to relocate the cabinet to the right of the sofa elsewhere in the house.

The 3 artworks you had are fine.)im an Artist so appreciate colour) I would use the rust and blue from the artwork for a balance in the room ie: rust rug, cushions in the blue and rust, take away the covers on couch add a blue cover? All the rust and blues can be in different tones, the space is to cluttered-is it a small room? I would relocate your cabinet to another space if you can and leave that wall clear so the artwork has its own space. yes to painting that wall. You could use soft grey covers on couch I also did the same in our lounge painted one wall in a deep blue/teal-looks great, added grey linen drapes and I have a cream couch and a rust couch added cushions and throws to help balance the colours... I can send you a photo if you like so you can see how it all works together. please dont go bland:)

Hi, I just saw this photo on Houzz and the art is very similar in its colouring to yours, thought it might help.

I like Julie Herbert's suggestions. I'd also pick up some of the colours from the art for accents in the rest of the room. I love coordinating colour behind art works, but with your bright ones, I'd be more likely to add a tone rather than the full colour for paint.

whitewash the bar cupboard. Remove the green cushions, they are warm green and everything else will be cool. keep it cool blues and greys. Yummy!

I would take everything out of the room and then add some pieces back in under it feels right. There's too much going on in there. The rug needs to be bigger and rectangular. The covers on the sofa aren't helping either. I like the pic that JE C posted. Less is more as they say. Good luck.

Echoing what KK1000 said, how about swapping the black framed pictures onto the larger wall and then have one white framed on the small wall.

Also is it just me, or are the pictures too low on the wall? They are overshadowed (and seemingly literally so) by the big cabinet on the right. Maybe move them somewhat up such that the upper edge is level with the top of the cabinet.

Lots of good stuff written here. Just another thought. As you have quite a lot of 'bits' in the room.... and presumably you like to live that way, rather than a minimalist style.... why not keep to one large picture above the sofa rather than a repeating theme? Or if a series, keep it less dominating, so that it appears as one. I've attached a couple of hastily found pics to show what I mean.

Perhaps change the set of 6 small pics for one, or one frame that accommodates multiple pictures within it. I agree the cabinet is overbearing in that location, though nice in itself. And I liked your friend's artwork too.

But is there enough room in your space to move the furniture like this?

I have moved your wooden coffee table where the couch is, and moved the cabinet so it is not the first thing you see as you enter.

Moving the grey side tables to form one “modular” table creates a uniform look that doesn’t sacrifice functionality. The marble side table would then be used next to the other couch (as the cabinet is where it used to be)

I would also take up the whole space between the aircon and the floor to hang your ‘family’ picture frames.

The gorgeous plant is then placed on top of the coffee table to become the hero in the space.

I noticed you used a grey soft looking throw blanket on the couch to the right. Is it possible to get matching versions of this to cover the sofa against the wall for the dogs? The texture and colour of the sheets you are currently using is what disconnects your lovely couch from the rest of the space.

Regardless of what artworks you choose to use for above the couch, having a darker frame will help to ground them in the space. The white frames are getting lost against the white brick wall at the moment.

You have great taste in furniture, it seems to be editing the layout of the space that is not quite working in your zone.

Darker grey flannel sheets over your lighter grey couch would work better. And a nice textured throw over the chaise.
