Need help with my boring out dated Living room Please,,,
Comments (17)Initially, in that case, I'm liking the idea of playing with silver. But first, the main difficulty is that there is a mix of styles -- quite pared-down and functional on the one side of the room, then on the other side the mirror and all, which are ornate. My first suggestion is to move the TV to where the mirror is, as Mark was provisionally suggesting above. Would your TV console fit there? Then we might be able to bring the mirror and that pretty chest of drawers into the sitting area, which would give you a better balance. Separate the mirror and the chest; they're fighting each other. The mirror could go over the brown couch so that it reflects the view from the window that's currently blocked by the TV. Would the chest fit where the small table currently is? The small table could then act as a side table to the black couch, in the corner where you have I-know-not-what ... that big black board. I'd suggest you take everything off it except the white statuette. I have other thoughts but I'll leave it at that for now; very interested to see what Mark suggests....See MorePlease help my living room!
Comments (9)I don't think you need to drastically change your colour scheme, as you already have very good basis for a colour scheme of blue and brown. Orange is the complementary of blue, so would have worked in your scheme, but if you now use the browns and creams in your room with an 'accent' of blue, you will have a very calming colour scheme - see the attached photo found on blog.styleestate.com. You won't really need to change much at all in your room, as the Moroccan pieces you have are mainly brown. Just change the rug and curtains - perhaps a brown rug like in the attached picture which is contemporary with a moroccan pattern and lighter curtains (blue or cream). Then add cushions and throws in browns and creams, and some Moroccan artworks in brown/cream/blue. If you want something brighter to add some wow, use teal or aqua which is very much a Moroccan colour, you could add a set of aqua Moroccan tea glasses on the coffee table etc. For example, these Moroccan cushions found on ebay http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FAB-NEW-IKAT-MOROCCAN-AQUA-TAUPE-WHITE-CUSHION-COVER-44X44cm-/271774038050?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item3f46feb822...See MoreHelp, help, Decor help! Comments (25)Hi everyone, I'd like to thank you all for your input. Have been a busy spring and summer, but now I'm back and able to focus on the living room. Couple of things have been done/removed since lately: 1. Leather lounge set: I've (luckily) sold the leather lounge set - absolutely great piece with great quality, but not my taste at all. It made a world difference to the living room and even dear hubby, who liked the set, did acknowledge that the difference of less furnitures is great. 2. The rug 3. The white cabinet 4. New curtains with pelmet I love the pelmet although it's old style and yes, the curtains are too short! Will amend this at later stage :) These changes have made a huge impact on the room. Also, I'm also open to change the dining table with chairs for another nice option in an attempt to make this more interesting/cozy/inviting. So, these are the only things that I won't be able to change (we may (note on may) also move house by the end of this year/early next year) # Blinds # Colour of trims and built-in bookcase # Camel back sofa - I'm happy to reupholster it though and change the fabric. This will cost $2000 but I think it's worth it since they are really comfortable and are of good quality. I'd like to integrate the white frame with the gold poster in the design - an idea is to place 3x posters on the biggest wall of the air conditioner. I'm aware that a brown frame may suit the gold poster better, but I'm so tired of the colour brown at this moment. --------- So, I now feel I'm able to adjust as per your suggestions and recommendations much easier now. Appreciate every response and idea (And sorry for the mess of papers on the desk and floor! We're busy professionals and sometimes I have to let my husband have his creative space despite my OCD when it comes to decluttering and keeping it tidy)...See MorePlease help me chose a nice rug for my living room!!!!
Comments (9)In that room I would go a bold patterned rug. It's a low contrast room as so much of the existing colours are harmonising. I like the distressed patterned rugs you've chosen but I think you should steer away from pastel versions and go a bit braver with a brighter colourway. Your room can certainly take it and I think you will be more pleased with the higher contrast. You also need a very large rug (3mx4m) otherwise as you've found with your existing rug, it's too insignificant against the scale of the room and furniture to make a reasonable impact. While the rug size I've mentioned seems huge you have to remember it's going to have your couch and ottoman sitting on it and then the room will be framed by a wide band of your floorboards. A rug that size will be in scale. To finish off, pick out a colour or two from your rug and put cushions in those same colours on your lounge. It will make a huge difference to your room....See More- 5 years ago
