Cost per square meter considerations for a two storey home

I’m in the very early stages of planning a knockdown rebuild of our family home.
We are looking to build a two storey home to take advantage of views and get more floor space on a small block.
On advice from the UA podcasts, I’m trying to do some basic estimating using price per square meter. What I’m unsure on is how a two storey home impacts the calculation.
I’ve read some articles telling me that due to the reduced footprint impact on the slab, roof etc, the price per square will reduce. Then I’ve read other articles that say the price will increase due to build complexity.
Looking for some advice please. :-)
