Renovating Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Bathroom Tile help please?

I have a small bathroom 3m x 2m to reno, I have light grey 300 x 600 matt tiles - enough to do the two 2m walls and the floor. I was thinking of using 300 x 600 white matt tiles on the two 3m walls, good idea or not? Also, should the walls be tiled all vertically or should the tiles be layed like brickwork? I have light oak vanity with white matt basin and am using all black fixtures.

With a small bathroom like yours, and large format tiles the joints between the tiles are actually more important than the tile. You want to make the bathroom seem bigger, and horizontal joints will help this. Don't lay in a traditional brick pattern, where every second tile is offset from the tile above as this makes it visually busy. Go with a standard grid pattern, with your rectangular tiles laid horizontally. Try to get your tiler align the joints in the floor tile with the joints in the wall tile.

By keeping it as plain and simple as possible you will perceive the bathroom to be bigger.

I have installed pebble tiles in several showersPros - very elegant, gives a sense of space as pebbles are different so no long defining linesCons - difficult to clean, must determine at outset if you want the stones deep in grout (you see lots more grout but the surface is smoother) or not so deep (you see less grout, but the surface is bumpier).Some people recommend epoxy grout, I don't for the simple reason it is much harder to get the grouting even with pebbles than tiles so more time needs to be taken.

Hi Kirsty, could you please advise the colour of your vanity and whether it is a custom made one and if not, could you let me know its name and where you bought it. Also, what is the colour of your floors tiles and where did you get them from. (I have come to the conclusion that charcoal/dark grey tile plus a much lighter grey tile plus white on some walls plus a timber vanity or timber accessories in bathroom , plus white (or close to it) below sink counter top is the way to go for a beautiful bathroom. The trick is figuring out exactly what proportion of each colour to use and where to put them for each particular layout.

I'd suggest replacing your swing door with a sliding door recessed into the wall sliding to right. We did that with our tiny bathroom and it opens up all the wall and space restricted by the door for a vanity next to loo with niche recessed mirror fronted storage above the vanity. Go wall hung to keep floor clear for sense of space.

It depends on what colours you are brave enough to use. The tile colour you have chosen will match with a lot of colours. There are so mosaics in white too if you don’t want colour. Beaumont’s tiles have 27% off all tiles at moment. I noticed that they have a smaller subway in Carrara look but would probably enable you to use cool and warm accessories in bathroom.
