Help deciding on window coverings

Hi everyone,
My family and I are about to move into our new house, but its missing a lots of window coverings. I’m having a hard time deciding what to use for the bedroom. What ideas does everyone have? Thanks in advance!

Because there is a door, I would use curtains, for a softer look, or panel blinds. Installed to open from right back to the left. Then you can still access the door when required, without the curtains/panel blinds, being in the way.

Very unusual window/ door. It would depend on how often you would use the door part. For privacy I would use two sunscreen blinds or one across both window and door so you have privacy during the day and views out . You could have a blockout curtains on top for privacy at night. Luxaflex has up/ down blinds, you can lower them from top or lift it from the bottom but I am not sure about installation on your particular windows it’s a tough one.

Hi Tina, thanks for posting, it is all looking great. Shame about the panelling, but sometimes these things happen for a reason. It is great the armoire matches the doors so well when they are all on one wall, but I don't think you need to have the bed and side tables matching, especially when they are on another wall. My issue with painting furniture, while I love it, is the maintenance. It does chip over time and becomes one more thing to paint. I don't know what the timber is in your furniture but another possible option, especially to give you the coastal vibe is to lime it. To do this successfully, you will need to sand all the existing stain off it and go back to the raw timber. The darker the original timber, the less limed look you will get so bear that in mind too. I did an old bunk bed up that had seen better days, for my grands bedroom. It was a dark red wood, but with 4 coats of stain I got the look I was after which was that driftwood/coastal look. The whole thing looks totally new again. Sorry I can't post a photo as this function no longer works for me. Have a look at the Feast Watson range of liming stains, they have some gorgeous soft colours as well, but they let the timber show through rather than having the solid painted look. It is a very easy product to use, it dries quickly - I did the 4 coats over 2 days effortlessly. The hard work is in the sanding.

Something to consider with roller blinds- The blockout ones can really block the airflow in Summer, and if you do leave the louvres open, the slightest breeze will cause the bottom rod to bang against the window frame. You can fix them so they don't do this, but again you have the reduced airflow.....which is why you have louvres in the first place. We have the same problem. My son's bedroom. He seems to have adjusted to no window coverings. Luckily we have no privacy issues.

It depends on the outlook, the privacy required, the orientation, and how much heat it gets from the sun in summer. I would suggest living with it for a year to understand exactly what you need. As the windows are non-openable I would suggest avoiding anything that requires maintenance such as timber battens, or anything that provides suitable nesting potential for birds, as the droppings from nests can make an awful mess. If money was no option I would consider adjustable metal louvres, perhaps mounted vertically, that could be opened and closed depending on the time of year. Resear ch Vergola. Hello, this is exactly why window treatment specialists such as ourselves exist! There are a lot of options depending on your preference for internal look. Some simple ideas such a dual roller blinds have already been referenced. You’ll have to meet with a consultant to see how two fabrics pair, especially if you’re considering one being light filtering. You can also mix treatments such as a dark roller blind recess fit to the window, and a light roman blind fit over the architrave which will give you a soft fabric finish. Alternatively white plantation shutters contrasting an exterior black window frame can actually look really stunning. It does depend on the style of the black framing you use. There are a lot of these type of window and doors in 60's homes where I live. Pull down blinds would just get in the way when using the door. If you prefer blinds, then panel blinds would be my suggestion.

Congratulations exciting times moving into a new home. When considering window coverings remember to have consistency when viewing all windows from out side. Plan to extend any curtain/panel track so that when they are pulled back you can see out to the garden and light, this would need to extend out to the left behind the cabinet.

Another option is good old fashioned vertical blinds, they are small enough to stack to one side and great for adjusting the light, cheap and they come in lots of colours and sizes. Panel blinds require lots of space to stack or they would cover a lot of the window.
