Which timber kitchen bench with spotted gum floor?

I think I’m going with timber kitchen bench top although not 100% sure. The cabinetry is white and the walls are sage green. (Rural, modern farmhouse style)

I was thinking black butt kitchen benches?

1. Maybe too timber

2. Not the right timber?

I would probably avoid a timber benchtop with a spotted gum floor. Often timber benchtops don't age gracefully, especially around sinks, over time, and need more love and maintenance. I would let the floor be the feature and go with a plainer, more neutral benchtop, perhaps in a reconstituted stone, such as Ceaserstone, that will work with your cabinetwork.

If you must have a timber benchtop then consider it on an island bench (without a sink or stovetop), and use a reconstituted stone benchtop for the sink and stove area.

Ok here is a photo i just found...This is Queensland Spotted Gum, which is more varient than the NSW Spotted Gum. Friends that have seen it say how gorgeous and different it is...and so so glad we didn't end up going with blackbutt :)

For the Finish go with a 2 Pack Oil Based Polyurethane, can Last well up to 30 years depending on Brand and Traffic over the floors, we use it on some of the Bar Tops we have Done and it is Bullet Proof. My Favorite part of it is its easy to clean. And a Secret way of Polishing small areas is using Car Polish and a Rag and brings it up like new.. only down Side is maybe after 10 years or So it MAY start to Yellow. You can also get different types of Finish either High Gloss or Normal, again Depending on Brand. We Used Wattles 2 Pack Polyurethane 7008

If you are using real spotted gum timber as a feature floor then a fake, spotted gum-like laminate won't match exactly and will look cheap. If budget constraints limit you to a laminate kitchen select a plain colour that complements the spotted gum floor that does't try to be something else. Laminex Industries has a great range of plain colours as a starting point, but there are lots of other manufacturers in the market place. Don't go with a generic white kitchen that provides a stark contrast to the visual warmth of the floor. Honesty in materials is an elegant way to work with a tight budget. Suzie, hubby and I are just contemplating engineered spotted gum flooring throughout our in-progress new build. He wants matt, I want satin. We have gloss or semi-gloss throughout our current home and love the look but not how much scratches show up. We are struggling to see whole room/house matt finished spotted gum floors - and I'm wondering how you feel about yours? And what did you decide for kitchen? We have a 'lemon myrtle' cupboard door planned for upper cupbaords and white semi-gloss for lower cupboards and benchtops.

I think a Concrete looking Caesarstone would work well. Have you considered Fresh Concrete or Raw Concrete? These are easy to look after and will still be warm over a timber floor.

Spotted Gum is very busy and colourful. I think you need to move away from timber for the bench tops and go for something completely different. Perhaps a concrete look finish or warm cream tone that will sit nicely with the spotted gum.
