Ideas for ideal bathroom layout

We are building new and not happy with how our shower backs on to the bath. Concerned about water splashing into bath (extra cleaning etc) Should we install a glass wall to separate shower and bath tub? Any suggestions for a better layout would be appreciated!

If you put in a glass wall between the bath and shower you'll only have a space of 59cm to enter the shower which isn't enough, its too narrow. Or you put the nib/divider wall between the bath and shower and have a large door on the right hand side of the shower but privacy might be an issue doing this. The only way to keep the current nib wall would be to reduce the overall size of the bath and shower so you can access the shower from the bath side. Its a tricky one, you need to work out whats more important, privacy or the size of the shower and bath?

Yes I would install a glass screen. Or a nib wall with glass screen. You have a great bench of 2400, I would install two basins.

Thanks siriuskey, similar to another suggested layout which works well in the space. Will definitely put in a mirror shaving cabinet and replace the horrible 70's spec shower screen currently there. oklouise, thanks for another great suggestion. I'm open to moving everything at this stage (subject to plumbers costs). The entire property is only around 100sqm (double storey barn conversion) so there really isn't another space for the "laundry" to go. Having said this, we did contemplate a European laundry in the kitchen, but again, we'd still have spacing issues plus additional costs that we don't have the budget for. I definitely have lots to discuss with Mr Danielle!

The doorway that sarah has shown at the entry prior to stairs will be load bearing to support the stairs above where they change direction. But it could just be an entranceway. Okl opt 3 I would prob do a 1200 enclosed shower to get a decent sized towel rail outside shower, with door and short end and shower tap near door. Bath robe hooks on door. Not sure if enough the height for toilet under stair, sadly.

Thanks! I didn’t realise the doors were tall? As it is a reno I assume they just fit in with the existing. I had a separate powder room initially but then was trying to save costs

We have a very similar bathroom set up. We opted for a floor to ceiling tiled wall with a low recess on bath side and one that sits just above it in the shower alcove, perfect for storing shampoos ect. Being our family bathroom it allowed one child to take a bath and the other to shower at the same time.

The lovely Alison from @leederinteriors is right, that is a very narrow entrance to the shower if there is not already a nib wall between the bath and shower stall.

And just to throw a spanner in the works.. Is there a particular reason why the mixer is in that area, instead of opposite where you get in? I dont know about anyone else, but i like to adjust the shower temp before i get in and it would be awkward with it around the corner.

If you wanted the privacy that that wall would offer, you could always have a fixed frosted section of glass wall there of about 700mm wide, which would leave room for the nib wall next to bath.

just a thought!

I have that basic layout but swap the bath and shower position. You don’t want the shower opposite doorway, think bathmat.
It is also wider than bath. I have a low wall between shower and bath which gives a ledge for bath. Shower screen above. Add glass door and panel to shower entry.

Something like the following where the bath and shower share the same space, on entering you are looking at the vanity.

Hi Brigitte,

Because this is a new build I would swap the bath for the shower so when you look into the room the first u see is the bath and window. With the shower at 1200 long at the other end of the room a glass screen to the bath and door to the room will be terrific! With mixer to the right and head in center of shower. And yes at 2400 long vanity do put in two basins.

Tho I like the idea of the vanity opposite the door as per Suriuskey's plan I think it is making the room narrow across bath and shower so better to have sh and bath on same side as the room will be more spacious.

My suggested floor plan is of a wet room style, bath on one side and the shower opposite, the shower space becomes flooring next to the bath so it's extra wide, 1780 from side of bath to wall of the shower is large and will open up the room, much better to look at a vanity when entering. cheers

Swap the vanity and the shower, this way you will have a larger shower and look onto the vanity when you walk in. Add a lovely pendant to the vanity for a wow factor.

Siriusky plan is better, in my opinion. The wet floor areas are in the same place. Access to vanity is direct when walking into bathroom. With vanity on opposite wall to bath and shower, the potentially wet floor must be walked through before getting to vanity.
