How literal should I interpret this? Are you wanting seahorses, crabs and wall mounted fish, or a more nautical theme as far as colours and finishes? I would set the theme in bedrooms first, that way you have more fun taking risks and can later use the best ideas in other areas of the house. I would start by installing a vertical lining board cladding to the walls, painting them a duck egg blue or sea green. Floors leave timber, with sisal rope rugs under bunk or cabin beds. Lighting is always fun and both ceiling and lamps come in this style. Where possible, plantation shutters on the windows, or install louvre door cut to fit and hinge them across a window, paint in a nice teal blue green and then while still wet, get a sponge and wipe most of it off, you'll be left with a stained old timber. I would hang two or three round mirrors above a dresser like porthole, and use timber oars, either new or old as curtain rods or coat racks on a blank wall. Lots of things for this look, not to mention hurricane vases with sand, shells and starfish, bowls of sea glass, pebbles and shells, and artwork. So many ways to bring in the theme.

White isn't great with brown. Earthy colours are coming in.

Tsk tsk... Art at the least is something which resonates with you, for any reason, great Art is a bit different..... Buy a prepared canvas and some colours you like and have at it. Then hang it up on the wall.... I would suggest a large horizontal canvas close to the width of the sofa for that wall.

It really is all about the rug isn’t it. Really sets the tone of the room but must must must be large enough the old standard 160x230 is really a bathmat. Then the art. Thank god I’ve done the rug part in most of my house it’s one of the hardest parts of putting a room together.
