Awkward Fire Spot?

How would you utilise this area? The walk ways are not wide enough to pop chairs down in front without being a trip hazard...

I see you have a second post about this specific area. Add it to your other post. Would be good to decide if fireplace is to stay or could be removed. I had one at my place removed to allow for an extension and relay out of house.

you need to include lengths and widths of all the rooms including halls....sqm of the whole room is not enough

I'm like telperien in that it depends on the season. I love hanging out on my leather sofa with a nice fire and a glass of scotch in the cooler months, and on the front veranda in more temperate months. We're on the side of a mountain facing northwest so we get some fantastic sunsets.

Hi Kelly You have lovely colours and finishes in your home, makes for a great starting point. If your dining table fits in the lounge room with plenty of room then it might be an option. You could consider then making the front room a nice sitting area. If you are thinking of updating your main sofa to a corner type then maybe go for single chairs in the front room which you can anchor with a rug and round coffee table. See images below. Then to create a more formal entry way, separate the area with a bench seat that can (so it would sit opposite your built in at front door) then lay a hall runner between the two. A plant next to the bench would help screen between also. You could then replace the photograph with a mirror (possibly round to contrast with cabinets) and add catch all bowl for keys, sunnies, etc... Hope this helps and we'd love to see what you decide to do.

Your kitchen is small and already quite busy. I would make it as simple and clean as possible. You can't beat ceramic tiles for cost, durability and ease of installation. I say don't be afraid of the negative space, embrace it. The fireplace is located such that it can be enjoyed (at least partially) from the lounge, kitchen and dining - pretty rare for a single sided fireplace.

Maybe get nice comfy rug to put in front of the fire and that all you need (the rug should be located beyond the hearth or course and go for wool as it will be naturally more fire retardant than a modern plastic fibre one).

OR

Hanging egg chairs in front of the fireplace. Pretty out there idea but at least you can take them down if you get sick of walking around them.
